**Job Description**:
**AECOM**’s **Burnaby office** is seeking a Junior Aquatic Biologist to join our Environment Business Line. You would be joining a team of dynamic and technically focused biologists, environmental planners, and social scientists. You can expect a collaborative, team-based working environment, with opportunity for mentorship to support your professional and technical development.

We lead environmental projects and support multi-disciplinary projects with other AECOM Business Lines, both locally and across Canada and in the north. This includes baseline environmental studies, impact assessments, construction monitoring, impact mitigation planning, habitat enhancement, wetland assessments, and permitting and approvals to advance projects. Some example projects include:

- aquatic studies to support upgrades for mine operations,
- habitat enhancement studies and permitting to support port development,
- environmental assessments, permitting and environmental monitoring for the construction of wastewater treatment plants, and
- permitting for sewer pipe upgrades and drinking water delivery system upgrades,
- studies to support the environmental assessment and permitting for the remediation of abandoned mine sites for the provincial and federal governments
- invasive plant surveys for natural gas pipelines.
- environmental assessment to support remediation and permitting at remote Arctic sites

The job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

- Conducting background research on aquatic resources,
- Aquatic field studies, freshwater or marine, including biological sampling and ecological surveys e.g., water quality, benthic invertebrates, periphyton, fish and fish habitat,
- Supporting the preparation of environmental approvals and permits required for projects including federal, provincial and municipal permits
- Supporting and participating in construction environmental monitoring
- Participating in data compilation, analysis and reporting
- Participating in environmental assessments, identifying mitigation measures and report writing
- Contributing to broader, interdisciplinary teams on a wide variety of major industrial and government projects
- Interacting with AECOM offices across Canada
- Out of town travel to participate in field programs, sometimes in remote locations
- Preparing health and safety plans.

**Qualifications**:
**Minimum Requirements**:

- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Forestry, Ecology, or Conservation Biology
- Eligible for or registered with the BC College of Applied Biology as a B.I.T.
- Possess and maintain a Class 5 drivers’ license

**Preferred Qualifications and Skills**:

- Master’s degree
- 2 or more years of relevant project experience (Western Canada experience preferred)
- Experience collecting environmental data in the field, including knowledge of BC RISC protocols for fish and fish habitat, water quality, etc.
