The Royal Alberta Museum (RAM) is responsible for the overall care and preservation care of a numerically large and diverse collection of cultural objects and natural history specimens across multiple collections facilities. RAM’s Collections Services Unit undertakes many logístical, preservation, storage, movement, handling, auditing, tracking and documentation activities in fulfilling the museums operational goals.

**Role Responsibilities**:
The Royal Alberta Museum (RAM) is seeking an Assistant Curator, Collections Management for a position with the Museum’s Collections Services Section.

Reporting to the Curator, Collections Management and working with the collections management, conservation and curatorial teams, this position assists in the implementation and completion of general collections management and preservation activities at the Royal Alberta Museum and its multiple ancillary offsite collections facilities.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Undertake activities and duties to ensure the long-term physical preservation of the Royal Alberta Museum's collections.
- Assist in the accurate documentation and reporting of the Royal Alberta Museum's collection.
- Under the direction of the Curator, Collections Management, complete collections related duties to ensure the successful management/operation of RAM's off-site collections facilities (i.e. Collections Warehouses and Acheson Collections Center).
- Assist the Curator, Collections management in the process of deaccessioning and disposal of identified collections.
- Assist with the completion of the annual collections location audit.
- Contribute to the overall success of the Collections Services team's goals and priorities.

They are expected to identify and seek ways to achieve success without losing site of the end goals.

The position not only works creatively to address unique situations but must also adjust their daily tasks as required to respond to emergency situations, changing priorities, building/facility issues, and requests from other team members.
- **Creative Problem Solving**: must continually use their previous experience while seeking new ideas and methods to improve the efficiency of storing a growing collection within limited facility spaces. Similarly they must adapt their methodology of moving collections depending on the size, weight, fragility, etc. of a specific object.

**Qualifications**:
University graduation in a related field (Museum studies, Collections management, Cultural resource management,etc.)plus five years related experience; or equivalent as described below.

**Equivalency**: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of: 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education

1. Master's Degree in a similar field is an asset.
2. A demonstrated working knowledge of collections management practices including storage logistics, basic preservation standards, documentation and record keeping, and understanding of acquisition, deaccessioning and loan processes.
