**Role Responsibilities**:
The Royal Alberta Museum is seeking a skilled and well-qualified individual to take on the role of Quaternary Palaeontology Regulatory Assistant.

Reporting to the Acting Assistant Curator of Quaternary Palaeontology, you will assist with receiving and documenting incoming collections of Ice Age fossils.

Your main focus will be ensuring adequate documentation, identification, cataloging, and curation of these collections.

You will use your knowledge of taxonomy of Ice Age fauna of Alberta and western Canada and your identification skills for fragmentary fossil specimens to curate these collections.

Most of your time will be spent in the fossil laboratory and collection space at the museum. Fieldwork may be a small component of your work. Specific duties include:

- Accessioning and curating incoming Quaternary palaeontology collections, including coordinating delivery of incoming collections, verifying specimen identification and associated records, and ensuring specimen records are complete.
- Undertaking detailed descriptions and analysis of key specimens, including digital imagery and measurements
- Assisting with industry engagement and stakeholder outreach, including with the palaeontology consulting community
- Contributing to the development of the Quaternary palaeontology collection by supporting ongoing projects and participating in fieldwork at fossil localities
- Providing operational support by assisting with collection storage to ensure long-term maintenance of the collection, helping with supervision of volunteers, assisting with outreach such as blogs and public enquiries.

**Qualifications**:
Minimum Recruitment Standard: Two-year diploma in a related field (Palaeontology, Zoology, Bioscience, Bioarchaeology) plus two years related experience in a museum setting.

Preferred: University graduation in a related field (Palaeontology, Zoology, Bioscience, Bioarchaeology) plus a minimum of one year experience in a museum setting.

Knowledge of and experience with Quaternary palaeontology specimens is required.

Good written and verbal communication skills

Assets:

- Post-secondary diploma in Museum Studies
- Knowledge of ArcGIS
- Knowledge of image processing software

**Notes**:

- This is a temporary full-time position.
- The position end date is August 30 2024.
- Hours of work are 36.25 hours weekly.
- Days of work are Monday to Friday, 8:15 am to 4:30 pm
- Occasional weekend and evening work may be required
- May be some fieldwork, day trips, no more than 5
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver’s licence is required
- Ability to lift and move boxes (up to 15 kg)
- Capacity to do fieldwork, with short distance hiking, and carrying a backpack
