**Overview**:
Reporting to the Program Manager, Steveston Heritage Sites, the Shipyards Operations Supervisor oversees the heritage boat program at Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site. This position is responsible for the delivery of boat building programming including project managing boat restoration activities, running an active wood-working shop, and working with staff and volunteers to support the interpretation of Britannia Shipyards through public demonstrations and workshops. Additionally, this position oversees upkeep of City-owned boats and boat-related assets and other dock activities at Britannia Shipyards.
**Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:
- Planning and delivering heritage boat programming for the public, and ensuring boat programming and the boat building workshop operate in accordance with WorkSafeBC regulations.
- Managing the City’s heritage boat building projects.
- Supervising staff, volunteers, and contractors in the delivery of programming and completion of boat building projects.
- Overseeing the day-to-day upkeep of City-owned boats and boat-related assets, including docks and other waterfront infrastructure; work with other departments on maintenance and infrastructure upgrades as needed.
- Managing procurement and upkeep of tools and equipment related to boat programming.
- Representing the City of Richmond in a positive manner while liaising with community stakeholders, waterfront users, and members of the heritage boat community to build relationships and support positive experiences while fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment.
- Assisting with the effective stewardship of the City’s heritage boat collection; and supporting dock operations at Britannia Shipyards.
- Perform other duties as required.
**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:
- Considerable knowledge of wooden boat building, maintenance, restoration, and evaluation.
- Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions related woodworking.
- Considerable knowledge of project coordination related to maritime assets or operations.
- Knowledge of small vessel operations including maintenance, servicing and storage.
- Knowledge of the policies, procedures, and regulations related to shipyard and marina operation.
- Basic knowledge of West Coast maritime history.
- Demonstrated skill with wood working tools and other equipment related to the work.
- Demonstrated ability in teaching or communicating boat building techniques.
- Demonstrated ability in supervising staff and/or volunteers.
- Demonstrated ability to read blue prints and diagrams and loft wooden boat plans.
- Demonstrated ability to read and write technical reports related to boat building, repair and dock management.
- Ability to communicate professionally in writing and verbally.
- Ability to handle sums of money and maintain adequate records.
- Ability to prepare and maintain repair records of shop and marine equipment.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public and stakeholder groups.
- Ability to safely tow and park a trailer.
- Ability to successfully pass a Police Information Check.
**Qualifications and Experience**:
- Completion of Grade 12.
- Minimum of five (5) to eight (8) years of related experience in boat building, preferably in a supervisory role that oversees woodworking and shipyard operations.
- Completion of training courses related to wooden boat building, maintenance and restoration from an accredited institution.
- Completion of the Occupational Health and Safety "Supervisory for Safety" course.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence from the Province of British Columbia.
- Pleasure Craft Operator Card.

- Typical Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 8:15am - 5:00pm (Compressed Work Week).
Flex Blocking System in Effect: This position is on a flexible-blocking schedule. Hours will be scheduled based on operational need and can include daytime, evening, weekdays and weekends shifts of varying lengths as each shift can be extended or shortened by moving blocks of time as required within the pay period. Day shifts will be scheduled if there is no operational need for evening and weekend work.
