p>Bracewell Marine is one of the leading marine service shipyards in British Columbia. We proudly repair, repower, and build marine vessels such as fishboats, tugboats, other commercial vessels, and private yachts up to 130 feet and 220 tons. Operating in the Shelter Island Marina in Richmond, BC, we are part of the extensive BC marine industry supporting the 4th largest port in North America and the logging, fishing, tourism, and pleasure craft markets.

We are looking for an experienced Paint and Sandblast Team Lead to join our shipyard’s diverse team of painters, sandblasters, welder/fabricators, mechanics, machinists, and woodworkers. The Team Lead for our marine painters and sandblasters is a lead-by-example role responsible for preparing, sandblasting, painting, and finishing a wide variety of marine vessels and industrial fabrication projects. The ideal candidate is a hands-on painter/blaster with experience in marine painting/blasting, and in directing and mentoring team members with a positive team-building leadership style.

Responsibilities

  1. All aspects of preparing, blasting, painting, and finishing marine vessels and industrial fabrication projects
  2. Provide daily leadership and direction for a team of 3 to 6 painters/blasters with a lead-by-example approach to fully engage and support the team
  3. Train, coach, and mentor to improve the skills, quality, and efficiency of the paint/blast team
  4. Assist with estimating, and determining the required surface preparation and type/number of paint coats
  5. Operate blasting and spray equipment, and perform brush/roll/masking tasks as required
  6. Operate rust removal (hand and pneumatic) tools
  7. Ensure paints, solvents, and other coatings are mixed and applied according to specific formulas and application guidelines
  8. Install insulation and outfit marine vessels
  9. Ensure a high level of safety, quality, and attention to detail
  10. Perform quality control inspections and data collection to ensure adhesion, coverage, and finish
  11. Equipment maintenance and organization of blast/paint materials storage areas
  12. Collaborate with the shipyard supervisor and other personnel
  13. Engage in Bracewell Marine’s continuous improvement culture, with an emphasis on continuous improvement of our blast and paint team capabilities
  14. Be actively involved in our lean manufacturing and leadership training initiatives

Skills and Experience

  1. Required: 5+ years of marine/industrial painting and blasting experience
  2. Required: Knowledge of paint and coating standards (SSPC, NACE, etc)
  3. Asset: CAS (Coating Application Specialist) – Level 2 certification
  4. Asset: Red Seal Painter/Journey Person and Decorator certifications
  5. Required: Team-player with a positive attitude and the ability to ensure safety, quality, and efficiency
  6. Required: Excellent attention to detail and craftsmanship
  7. Required: Driver’s license
  8. Required: Ability to work at heights, outdoors, and in confined spaces
  9. Asset: Forklift, crane, confined space, and/or fall protection certification (training available)

  1. Full-time, permanent, available immediately, Monday - Friday, 8-hour daytime shifts
  2. Minimum $40 per hour – rate depends on experience and certifications
