**Overview**:
Britannia Shipyards National Historic Site is an 8-acre heritage park set on the scenic banks of the Fraser River. The site is the original location of early canning, fishing and boatbuilding operations in the Steveston Area. Arranged along a wooden boardwalk, the unique landscape and collection of heritage buildings were home to a diverse community of people who lived and worked in Steveston beginning in the late 1800s up to the present day. Today, a combination of knowledgeable interpretive staff, on-site exhibitions and public programs, work together to create a lively and educational visitor experience.
The Recreation Leader (Heritage) supports the Britannia Shipyards Programmer in the development and delivery of engaging public programs. This includes the annual Richmond Maritime Festival hosted at Britannia Shipyards in late August, which attracts almost 40,000 visitors over a two-day period.
**Examples of key responsibilities include, but are not limited to**:
- Assist in the development, delivery and evaluation of Britannia Shipyards public programs.
- Recruit and organize vessels to activate the Britannia Shipyards dock throughout the summer season.
- Organize and supervise volunteers for the Richmond Maritime Festival.
- Support the promotion of public programming.
- Provide customer service to internal and external contacts.
- Assist with rental and facility bookings, including the Britannia Shipyards dock.
- Assist with activities at Britannia Shipyards as needed.
- Perform other duties as required.
**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:
- Experience in the development and delivery of cultural programs or events.
- Ability to organize, coordinate and provide leadership in program activities.
- Experience in volunteer recruitment, training and supervision including the ability to prepare and maintain records and reports related to this work.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, volunteers, community partners, and the general public.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently to ensure successful service delivery.
- Ability to prioritize competing demands, work well under pressure, and deal with stressful situations with professionalism and tact.
- Ability to provide effective customer service.
- Understanding of and experience with delivering arts, culture, heritage services using a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion lens.
- Knowledge and skill in using Outlook and Microsoft programs.
- Experience with iCanHelp or other volunteer management system is an asset.
- Ability to successfully clear a Police Information Check.
**Qualifications and Experience**:
- Completion of a Diploma/Program in Arts, Culture, Heritage or Community Recreation program is preferred. Completion of related coursework equivalent to a minimum of 1 year post-secondary is required, supplemented by a minimum of 1 year and up to and including 2 years of related experience.
- An equivalent level of education, training and experience may be considered.
- A broad understanding of BC Heritage is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s licence for the Province of British Columbia.
**Working Conditions**:
- Duties are performed both indoors and outdoors, often in inclement weather.
- Must be able to work on weekends.
- Attendance at Grand Prix of Art and at Richmond Maritime Festival is required.
