Wigwamen Incorporated is seeking an applicant who is innovative, self-motivated and highly organized to fill a new Cultural Supports Coordinator position.

The Cultural Supports Coordinator will act as a primary cultural resource for all tenants of Wigwamen Incorporated and will work collaboratively with the Follow-up Support Worker Program, the Aboriginal Housing Support Centre (AHSC), the Aboriginal Supports to Daily Living (ASDL) program, as well as Senior Management and Wigwamen staff. This position requires flexibility and the applicant may need to work some evenings and weekends, as required.
- Post-secondary education in Indigenous Studies, Cultural Resource Management, Social Work or an acceptable combination of education, training, and/or job experience
- Minimum two years’ experience in working with Indigenous Elders and a solid understanding of Indigenous heritage, language, traditional and cultural practices
- Comprehensive knowledge of community resources, housing issues and supportive services
- Experience obtaining the necessary supplies, equipment, and/or resources to facilitate cultural based support services
- Experience engaging with and responding to the needs of the local Indigenous community and the ability to provide system navigation supports
- Excellent interpersonal, planning, verbal communication, presentation, report writing, facilitation and liaison skills
- Experience working with vulnerable and marginalized sectors, and with clients with mental health issues and/or addictions
- Knowledge of the historical issues impacting Indigenous communities, languages, traditions, culture, and experience working with the urban Indigenous community is a definite asset
- A valid Ontario G Driver’s License, own vehicle, and the willingness to travel

**Responsibilities will include**:

- Provide culturally responsive and client-centered supports to help clients establish connections to local community-based supports, services, and programs
- Strive to be a positive role model for clients while representing Wigwamen Incorporated in a professionally appropriate manner
- Ensure that services are delivered with excellence and conform to Wigwamen’s philosophy, policies, procedures, guidelines, and delivery standards
- Recruit and maintain a roster of Indigenous Elders, Traditional Advisors, Knowledge Keepers and Healers to provide culturally appropriate services
- Plan, organize and coordinate cultural events, workshops, life skills sessions, language classes, activities, teachings, ceremonies, and special events and/or projects
- Participate in the organization of Wigwamen's Annual Tenant Picnic that takes place on a Saturday in August or September
- Create a quarterly Newsletter for Wigwamen's Housing portfolio
- Educate and provide staff and clients with cultural awareness, sensitivity, and competency training
- Develop partnerships with stakeholders and conduct presentations to client groups and organizations on cultural services and supports
- Establish and maintain purposeful relationships with local Indigenous service providers
- Have working knowledge of the administrative structure and operations of Wigwamen Incorporated
- Ensure that clients are aware of the availability of cultural resources to maintain their cultural identities and practices
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, workshops, special events and training sessions
- Keep detailed client records as set out in the project workplan; submit monthly reports in accordance with program and organizational requirements
- Monitor the effectiveness of cultural supports and recommend changes to the types of supports offered
- Other duties as required by Wigwamen Incorporated
