**The Company**

Baylink Networks is a Canadian environmental & construction company that specializes in marine fibre-optic cable. We are based in Port Coquitlam, British Columbia and we are growing Our mission is to connect rural communities to high-speed internet. Our current large-scale project is working on the coast of B.C., building landing sites in remote locations - check out the connectedcoast.ca website for more information. This work has the opportunity to visit sites across BC's coastline including Vancouver Island.

**Key Responsibilities**:

- Overall support and supervision of the marine operations process, including day to day activities.
- Lead the team with integrity and safety and earn the trust of all workers.
- Manage your team, including planning and organizing workload.
- Work with in-house Scheduling & Travel Coordinators to plan & coordinate field shifts.
- Schedule, forecast and monitor project status to ensure deadlines will be met.
- Make decisions in a logical manner, keeping safety as the priority.
- Liaise with Operational leads to ensure smooth transition of work.
- Liaise with Safety Coordinator to ensure safe work practices are implemented and followed.
- Report important info and statistical information to teams and upper management.
- Construction or transportation support, as needed.
- Organize logistics pertaining to materials required to complete cable lay.
- Ensure that all cable lay equipment is on hand and working before start of each shift.
- Organize loading points for cable reels at various locations.
- Assist shore crews with builds, if required.
- Ensure all documents are completed by Cable lay team.
- Assist with maintenance of marine vessels.
- Assist with weather forecasts for the marine vessels.
- Guide and mentor cable lay team in the performance of work.
- Accompany cable lay team on vessel to record performance of team.
- Troubleshoot and help find solutions to any issues with cable lay equipment and/or deployment.
- Complete daily reports detailing work performed for that day.
- Communicate all issues to management in a timely fashion.
- Liaise and build connections with local people to assist in operations.
- Perform inspections of Baylink marine vessels.
- Be cognizant of budget and allowable expenditures.
- Other tasks as assigned by the Operations Manager or General Manager.
- 5+ years of marine/boating experience, with an advantage going to those familiar with the coast of British Columbia.
- Experience operating small workboats is required.
- Must have current SVOP and MedA3.
- Knowledge of tides, water, marine hazards, and weather and how they might impact each voyage.
- Willingness to work in remote locations outside of normal business hours.
- Comfortable travelling by boat in all sea states and weather conditions.
- Strong overall knowledge of marine construction, and the ability to organize and coordinate a marine construction team.
- Strong communication skills; the ability to provide clear direction and listen appropriately.
- Ability to be flexible, adaptable and creative to meet the needs in a changing environment.
- Flexibility and willingness to work in a variety of capacities to get the job done well, including field work, site visits, and occasional warehouse or office work.
- Ability to effectively use Microsoft 365 including Outlook, SharePoint, Teams, Word, and Excel.
- Level 1 First Aid certificate or Marine First Aid (an asset).
- Thorough understanding of applicable legislation, regulations, and policies to ensure project-specific compliance.
- Working knowledge and proficiency in the use of boat and field navigation and communication equipment.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism.
- Ability to deal effectively with personnel issues.
- Familiar with SiteDocs, though not required.
- Must have and maintain a valid provincial driver’s license and clean driver's abstract.
- Must be fully vaccinated and provide a valid COVID-19 vaccination record.

**Who will you be working with?**

You will be collaborating with our various departments including Projects & Permitting, Operations, Environmental, and Construction staff, but reporting directly to our Field Operations Manager. Effective team collaboration and communication skills are required. The team’s expertise and project tasks are diverse, presenting an opportunity for collaboration amongst team members to mentor and learn from each other.
