The Alberta Human Rights Commission works with Albertans to promote awareness of, and appreciation for, human rights and diversity. Its overall goal is to develop inclusive communities in which all Albertans can participate in the social, economic, and cultural life of the province without discrimination.
The Alberta Human Rights Act establishes the Alberta Human Rights Commission to carry out functions under the Act. The Commission is an independent Commission created by the Government of Alberta. The Commission has a two-fold mandate: to foster equality and to reduce discrimination. It fulfills this mandate through public education and community initiatives, resolution, and settlement of complaints of discrimination, and human rights tribunal hearings.

In your role as a Human Rights Officer, you will respond to confidential human rights and discrimination inquiries from the public. This includes members of groups protected by human rights legislation, employers, service providers, landlords, unions, and other potential respondents. You will provide information on the Alberta Human Rights Act, including processes for making complaints, requirements for reasonable accommodation under the Act, and referrals to other organizations.

**Requirements**:
- University degree in a related field (eg. law, social sciences, etc.)
- 4 years related experience such as in administrative investigations, conciliations, mediations, legal work, caseload management, and/or working in similar government program service delivery.
Equivalencies: Directly related education or experience considered based on 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.
- Experience with the Alberta Human Rights Act or human rights principles.
- Experience conducting administrative investigations.
- Experience including lived or working experience with diverse communities, such as people with mental or physical disabilities, racialized communities, Indigenous people, 2SLGBTQ+ communities, people with lower socio-economic status, and other marginalized groups.
