**Working for the Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences**

The Faculty of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is consistently ranked among the top three schools in Canada, and top 50 globally and has been the only pharmacy school in Alberta since 1914. The province of Alberta offers the most unique pharmacy practice environment in North America where pharmacists can prescribe medications, order laboratory tests, provide injections, and receive remuneration for patient care services. The Faculty annually admits 140 student pharmacists to the undergraduate pharmacy program and offers a number of post-professional programs. The Faculty also has approximately 60 graduate students on an annual basis.

**Position**

Reporting to the Associate Dean, Research, this position involves both hands on lab work and support of laboratory/facility and office administration including tracking requests and assigning speedcodes as appropriate This position will be responsible for training of staff and students on shared and/or specialized equipment (including Alternate Animal Housing), regular surveillance of scheduled maintenance, ensuring timely repair and replacement, and ongoing life cycle planning. The lab coordinator is responsible for policies and procedures related to health, safety and environment for shared equipment and space and participates in university and faculty health and safety initiatives and committees. The coordinator also participates in administrative activities, managing and tracking booking, use and billing of shared equipment and space. The coordinator may also provide assistance to for-credit academic classes, and at times assist in running specific pieces of equipment and assist individual researchers or third-party partners in experiments, on a cost recovery basis.

**Duties**

Equipment and Facilities
- Operates and maintains laboratory equipment in accordance with SAPs and QA/QC guidelines, specifically equipment in PAL, LCMS and HPLCs, along with all shared equipment owned by FoPPS
- Provides technical lab support for shared space and equipment and specialized equipment - acts as a resource for students, PDFs and other researchers in FoPPS. Trains staff and students in specialized lab techniques and assists with lab orientation and safety training
- Provide oversight of biohazard and chemical waste streams
- Performs regular maintenance of shared safety equipment, including safety showers and eye wash

Health, Safety and Environment
- This position serves as a point of contact for Emergency Response activities and is responsible for implementation of health, safety and environment initiatives, training and advising in relation to lab safety
- Active participant in health and safety initiatives at the faculty and University level. Develops annual action plans, reviews safety objectives and identifies improvement areas.

Administration
- Development and regular reviews and updates of laboratory policies and procedures
- Provide oversight and implementation of lab safety program

**Qualifications**
- A Bachelor's degree is in Science or a related field is required
- A minimum of 5 years of experience working in a laboratory is required
- MSc in Biology/Pharmaceutical Sciences preferred
- Knowledge and expertise with high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and liquid chromatography mass spectrometer (LC-MS) and other analytical equipment is an asset
