Research and Data Specialist

The Research Office is looking for a dynamic team player who will:
Exercise their passion for research and data to support Sheridan’s research ecosystem; including business planning, reporting, project management, marketing and communications regarding Sheridan Research.

Utilize their knowledge of, and experience with, research involving human participants to support Sheridan’s Research Ethics Board (REB)

Reporting to the Manager, Research and Strategic Initiatives, the Research and Data Specialist is a key member of the Research Office and uses their understanding and experience with various quantitative/qualitative research methodologies and their project management expertise to solicit, collect, validate, store, analyze and report on key data and performance/ quality indicators related to funded and unfunded research activities at Sheridan. This position also supports the Research Office’s Research Development team in identifying funding opportunities, and in some cases, provides leadership to undertake small, community-based research projects or support faculty in their research endeavours.

Key to the success of this role is the ability to demonstrate initiative and to establish strong customer-focused and collaborative relationships within the Research Office and across Sheridan’s Faculties, departments and Research Centres.

What You’ll be Doing

Using knowledge of research methods and principles of ethical research practices with human participants, acts as first point of institutional contact for internal and external researchers about the REB process and provides initial review of each submission to identify completeness of submission, risk level to refer to Chair or make recommendations regarding the need for delegated review or full Board review.

Supporting the gathering, analysis, maintenance and overall quality of data for Sheridan Research and data that is collected from other parts of the College for business planning and both internal and external reporting purposes.

Documenting data processes and procedures and identifying and initiating new processes to enhance data collection with colleagues.

Leading small research projects (typically community based) and also supporting, as needed, faculty-led research projects with data analysis.

Regularly monitoring typical funding body information as well as other less traditional sources of research funding for opportunities to support research across Sheridan and disseminating information in a timely and accessible way across the College.

Performing other related duties as assigned.

About You

You have the skills and knowledge to work with an increasingly diverse student and staff population as well as a proven commitment to anti-oppression, equity, and inclusion.

You demonstrate initiative and excellent problem-solving skills that enable you to independently seek out answers, resolve unexpected challenges and come up with improvements to existing processes.

You enjoy balancing many different tasks, staying organized and like to develop processes or systems to keep things running smoothly and delivered on time.

You are an analytical thinker but also innovative and passionate about data storytelling and visualization and have a knack for working with numbers and raw data and turning it into meaningful insights for senior leadership.

Master’s degree in social science, natural science research or a related field of study, with particular experience in human participant research methodologies. Preference will be to those who also have demonstrated experience participating or working with Research Ethics Boards/Review Committees

3 years experience with data solicitation, collection, analysis, manipulation and extraction tools like Qualtrics, Excel and SPSS (Equivalency will be considered)

Exceptional skills in leading and undertaking research projects, creating survey and data collection measures for capturing information for business planning purposes and managing timelines and deliverables.

Experience working cross-functionally and with external partners on research projects.

Experience working in research within a post-secondary environment would be an asset

The incumbent may be required to work on occasional evenings throughout the year during peak periods to meet deliverables
