Reporting to the Vice President of Finance and treasury, the Payroll Manager is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the payroll department, which includes the accurate and timely delivery of payroll and related services. Supervises Payroll Coordinators, and oversees payroll processing, investigating, troubleshooting and resolving payroll issues. The role is responsible for providing advice and support on payroll and related matters to employees, the payroll team, the Finance and Human Resources departments and other functional areas within Altus Group.

**Key Responsibilities**
- Responds to payroll inquiries from employees, management, external agencies, internal and external auditors and assists with the resolution of payroll issues.
- Maintains appropriate access and security levels on the ADP payroll processing systems, Researches and recommends best practices in payroll processes.
- Keeps current with changes to income tax and other payroll deductions, revisions to payroll-related legislation and regulatory requirements, finance and accounting requirements and standards, implementing the necessary system changes and procedural revisions; educates and coaches team and other key stakeholders on changes and revisions.
- Ensures payroll reporting requirements are met; oversees the balancing and reconciliation of payroll accounts and ensures income tax and other remittances are processed correctly and on time; oversees and performs payroll-related accounting transactions, including journal entries, general ledger account reconciliation and remittance of various payroll deductions.
- Manages and processes multi-provincial and multi-state payrolls consistent with federal, provincial, state, and municipal tax rates, including income tax, government health taxes, government pensions and employment insurance, where applicable
- Ensures processing of payroll changes including new hires, terminations, pay increases, bonuses, and employee personal information changes are completed accurately and in a timely manner.
- Manage and develop the payroll team, provides mentorship and guidance, oversees their structure and goals.
- Manages and leads projects related to payroll process improvements in order to create operational efficiencies. Including upgrading payroll systems and successful integration with Workday
- Continuously explores areas to improve workflow, streamline processes to enhance efficiency and productivity.

**Key Qualifications**:

- Undergraduate degree required in Human Resources, Finance or related field.
- Canadian Payroll Association certificate holder with ‘Payroll Compliance Manager’ designation required.
- American Payroll Association certificate holder with ‘Fundamental Payroll Certification (FPC)’ required.
- 5-7 years of relevant experience
- Specialized knowledge of Canadian, American and Luxembourg payroll legislation and government reporting requirements
- Exceptional organizational, problem-solving skills, attention to details and Ability to work within a team environment as well as independently.
- Excellent analytical, time management, conflict resolution and communication skills
