**Job Description***

Reporting to the site Program Supervisor, the Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) is part of an interdisciplinary team responsible for the provision of service for students requiring development in areas including but not limited to:

- Speech and language delays and disorders
- Communication and fluency disorders
- Voice and resonance disorders
- Swallowing and feeding disorders
- Cognitive-communication disorders
- Pre-literacy and literacy skills

**Responsibilities**:

- **Screening and (Re)Assessment***
- Collaborate with classroom team, families/caregivers and other interdisciplinary team members to determine speech-language needs of identified students
- Utilize informal screening and/or observation of identified children and document student skills and abilities
- Use standardized tools and informal assessments to assess and interpret results for identified students
- Complete assessment report which includes diagnosis, classroom impacts, recommendations, and strategies for speech-language support and to determine eligibility for Alberta Education funding
- Contribute to _Functional Observation Assessment_ document
- Provide a (timely) report of findings to Community Engagement Workers (during the intake process), classroom team and families/caregivers
- Re-evaluate child progress and/or current needs as needed

**IPP Contribution and Monitoring***
- In collaboration with the interdisciplinary team and families/caregivers, develop goals for the IPP, with specific accommodations and interventions required for success****:

- **Planning and Intervention****:

- Develop differentiated instruction strategies, including activities and strategies to support speech-language development
- Provide recommendations for materials, tools, and/or technology to facilitate learning
- Use a variety of treatment approaches to meet the needs of each child - individual, small group, and/or whole group interventions in and out of the classroom setting
- Determine a therapy plan to be carried out by speech-language pathologist assistant (SLPA)
- Document details of intervention (and/or assign the documentation to the speech-language pathologist assistant) based on standards outlined by the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA)
- Facilitate groups and educational workshops for families/caregivers on pertinent speech and language topics independently or in co-facilitation with SLPA **Case Management***
- Discuss, in consultation with interdisciplinary team and family/caregivers, child skill development, progress, observations, and updates
- Report/document child strengths, achievements, needs, and other noteworthy observations
- Refer to appropriate agencies and programs for additional intervention or support as needed and appropriate
- Complete (or assign to assistants) documentation of updates in child file for parents/caregivers to receive during monthly informal communication
- Contribute to the year-end transition report for those children requiring continued speech-language support
- Monitor and regularly review goals, accommodations, and/or interventions in collaboration with interdisciplinary team and families/caregivers
- Review and revise measures and/or goals as necessary
- Participate in family/caregiver meetings as needed

**Internal and External Learning and Development***
- Enhance classroom capacity by modeling interventions and supports in the classroom and/or providing in-service training for staff in areas of speech-language support
- Provide in-home support for families/caregivers for speech-language development
- Facilitate family and community workshops in the areas stated above

**Research and Best Practice Continued Competency***
- Keep up to date on best practice and current professional practice
- Keep up to date on agency and provincial policies

**Professional Supervision/Evaluation***
- Oversee performance and provide supervision (and evaluation if needed) of speech-language therapist assistants and/or students according to ACSLPA guidelines
- Provide feedback re: SLPAs to both SLPAs and Program Supervisor
- Create, review and complete progress on professional goals in collaboration with Program Supervisor for Performance Evaluation
- Participate in monthly or as-needed supervisions with Program Supervisor

**Skills & Experience**:

- Working with children with complex needs (ASD, FAS, Global Delays)
- Experience working with pre-school children and their families
- Experience working with vulnerable families (including low-income)
- Intercultural competence and experience working with diverse populations and English language learners
- Experience providing classroom-based services
- Experience supervising and supporting Speech-Language Assistants
- Ability to work in an interd
