**Reports to**: Manager, Community Engagement

**Main Objective**:
The Mentor Engagement Specialist will work with the Community Engagement team to engage and recruit volunteers to reduce the significant number of children and youth waiting to be matched with a mentor. This role would be ideal for self-motivated person, who is knowledgeable about the varying communities within Toronto, who is confident attending and presenting at events, as well as has some experience with building corporate and community partnerships.

**Responsibilities
- Community Engagement _
- Build and maintain solid, trusting relationships cross-functionally within all departments at BBBST.
- Be a visible and dynamic ambassador for BBBST in the communities that we have prioritized in Toronto. At this time those communities are: Scarborough, Regent Park and North West Toronto. This position will focus on Scarborough and Regent Park.
- Develop and steward relevant community relationships for recruitment and referrals.
- Engage in a variety of networking activities in the prioritized communities to promote a volunteer recruitment
- Work with other members of the Community Engagement team as well as the Service Delivery team to develop and implement action plans to increase awareness BBBST’s need for volunteers and opportunities for children and youth.
- Facilitate information sessions virtually, in the community and within corporate offices for prospective volunteers.
- Organize, coordinate, and participate in volunteer recruitment fairs and promotion opportunities.
- Build relationships with referral Partners to encourage referrals of volunteers and young people.
- Abide by Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Canada National Standards as required.
- Attend agency events, and be an ambassador for BBBST as requested.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and adhere to the privacy statement as set out in the Policies and Procedures at Big Brothers Big Sisters of Toronto

**Job Qualifications**:

- A post-secondary diploma or degree in a related field (education, social or human services, child and youth work, family studies) is preferred.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working within communities, volunteer engagement and/or recruitment.
- Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills.
- Knowledge of community development as well as working with marginalized communities is an asset
- Experience working in a diverse setting
- Strong organizational skills
- Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft office, including Word, Outlook, Excel and power point
- Ability to work flexible hours including week nights and some weekends as required.
- This position requires in-office work as well as occasional travel within the community being served.
