Job Summary
**A Brief Overview**
Reporting to the Associate Director of Operations, Career Advancement Centre, the Career Data & Systems Specialist (CDSS) is responsible for the collection, analysis, and reporting of career-related data for the Career Advancement Centre (CAC). Working collaboratively through active relationship building with key internal/external stakeholders, the incumbent maintains active tracking of the career status/progress of all Smith students and recent alumni. They identify trends in student needs, career goals, and engagement with CAC services, and contribute significantly to identifying gaps and opportunities to enhance CAC services.
The CDSS is responsible for developing, documenting, providing, and validating reports, queries and analyses to facilitate effective decision making and strategic planning by senior leadership. This includes developing and maintaining regularly scheduled reports and dashboards as well as managing ad-hoc requests for insights and information. As part of developing these reports, the CDSS will be required to consolidate information from across multiple data sources, including Quest, VMock, Salesforce, and other University records.
This position provides expertise to aid in the planning, design and development of technical resources. This position translates business requirements into an implementation plan with clients and members of the team. This position makes recommendations for solutions or improvements to business processes that can be accomplished through technology.
**Job Description**:
**What you will do** Analyzes, edits, documents, and translates business and functional requirements.
- Conducts research and addresses information systems changes and business process improvements to meet current and future business requirements.Completes detailed system specifications for workflow, scripts, reports, interfaces, conversions, modifications, customizations or extensions.Recommends system and business process improvements on complex information system and business process issues.
- Develops queries and reports.
- Configures and maintains systems as well as integrations with various third party systems.
- Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.
**Required Education**
- Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.
**Required Experience**
- More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.- Experience in data, trend analysis and reporting considered an asset.
- Experience working at a post-secondary education institution considered an asset.
Consideration may be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
**Job Knowledge and Requirements**
- Knowledge of concepts and principles in a specialist field that is typically acquired through a combination of advanced professional or academic qualifications and/or substantial work experience.

- Identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of work processes.
- Seek information and input to fully understand the cause of problems.
- Appropriately assesses risks before making a decision.
- Contribute to the creation and evaluation of possible solutions.
- Take action to remove obstacles and address problems before they impact performance and results.
- Promote a work environment that is free from sexual violence, harassment and discrimination, and the ability to show empathy for those who have experienced trauma.
