Job SummaryA Brief OverviewReporting to the Associate Director of Operations, Career Advancement Centre, the Career Data & Systems Specialist (CDSS) is responsible for the collection, analysis, and reporting of career-related data for the Career Advancement Centre (CAC). Working collaboratively through active relationship building with key internal/external stakeholders, the incumbent maintains active tracking of the career status/progress of all Smith students and recent alumni. They identify trends in student needs, career goals, and engagement with CAC services, and contribute significantly to identifying gaps and opportunities to enhance CAC services.
The CDSS is responsible for developing, documenting, providing, and validating reports, queries and analyses to facilitate effective decision making and strategic planning by senior leadership. This includes developing and maintaining regularly scheduled reports and dashboards as well as managing ad-hoc requests for insights and information. As part of developing these reports, the CDSS will be required to consolidate information from across multiple data sources, including Quest, VMock, Salesforce, and other University records.
The CDSS is also the administrator of the CAC's technology systems, ensuring system solutions meet stakeholder needs and providing appropriate communication and training support for applications and process changes.
This position provides expertise to aid in the planning, design and development of technical resources. This position translates business requirements into an implementation plan with clients and members of the team. This position makes recommendations for solutions or improvements to business processes that can be accomplished through technology.
Job DescriptionWhat you will do- Analyzes, edits, documents, and translates business and functional requirements.
- Conducts research and addresses information systems changes and business process improvements to meet current and future business requirements. Completes detailed system specifications for workflow, scripts, reports, interfaces, conversions, modifications, customizations or extensions. Recommends system and business process improvements on complex information system and business process issues.
- Develops queries and reports.
- Configures and maintains systems as well as integrations with various third party systems.
- Other duties as required in support of the department and/or unit.
- Four-Year Bachelor Degree or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or ongoing learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.
- More than 3 years and up to and including 5 years of experience.
- Experience in data, trend analysis and reporting considered an asset.
- Experience working at a post-secondary education institution considered an asset.
- Knowledge of concepts and principles in a specialist field that is typically acquired through a combination of advanced professional or academic qualifications and/or substantial work experience.
- Provide effective consultation and advice on non-straightforward and/or complex issues.
- Interaction with others requires interpersonal skills and the ability to understand and influence.
- Adapt messages to meet the different needs of different audiences.
- Builds relationships, trust and credibility.
- Prioritize and distribute work to deliver objectives on time and to the highest standard.
- Identify in advance when the intended results may not be achieved and develops a plan to address the gaps.
- Actively participate in project team meetings and develop individual and unit project plans.
- Lead procedural or technological change within a unit.
- Identify opportunities to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of work processes.
- Seek information and input to fully understand the cause of problems.
- Appropriately assess risks before making a decision.
- Contribute to the creation and evaluation of possible solutions.
- Take action to remove obstacles and address problems before they impact performance and results.
- Apply equity, diversity, accessibility, inclusion and Indigenization considerations to decision making and planning.
