Overall Accountability

The Total Compensation Analyst delivers accurate financial reporting; legislative, regulatory, and contractual compliance; and process efficiency for the Compensation, Group Benefits, Pensions, and Payroll functions and related transactions and projects.

Specific Accountabilities
- Ensures compliance to legislative, regulatory, and contractual requirements through relationships with external agencies and guides team members to ensure timely updates are communicated and understood.
- District representative to Canadian Revenue Agency for managing taxation remittances, corrections, and year-end balancing.
- Responsible for the related monthly and year-end accounting in alignment with the requirements of
- Calgary Catholic’s financial statements including:

- Prepares journal entries.
- Maintains internal controls for payroll.
- Prepares and processes bi-weekly/monthly benefit, pension, and payroll account remittances and associated year-end account reconciliations.
- Supports and participates in the fiscal year-end and ad hoc external audits.
- Investigates and resolves complex and detailed payroll issues.
- Performs various financial analyses and payroll audits.
- Actively manages recovery of employee overpayments and maintenance of receivable accounts.
- Coordination and processing of Tax Information slips and other projects as assigned.
- Develops, maintains, and updates practice and procedure documents and identifies any policies requiring establishment or updating.
- Through a collaborative team environment, ensures successful execution of multiple department deadlines.

**Qualifications**:

- Degree in accounting or a related field.
- Experience with large integrated Human Capital Management and Finance systems in processing; experience with PeopleSoft preferred.
- Three (3) to five (5) years’ payroll experience in a large multi-union environment.
- Chartered Professional Accountant an asset.
- National Payroll Institute certification as a Payroll Compliance Professional an asset.
- Sound knowledge of accounting principles, government legislation, and regulations related to group benefit deductions, pension contributions, and payroll taxation and employment insurance.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and expert Excel skills.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Self directed in identifying enhancements to business processes and technology.
