Energy Manager

Reporting to the Director of Capital Planning & Implementation, the Energy Manager serves as the Operations and Resilience champion for sustainability and greenhouse gas (GHG) emission reduction.
The incumbent is responsible for energy management, conservation measures, expenditure reduction strategies, technical solutions, utility and resource data collection, analysis and reporting, outreach and communication services, and other specialized energy management program services. In addition, in support of RRU’s Climate Action Plan and climate risk assessment, the energy manager will provide advice to RRU’s climate action team, the university’s Climate Leadership Committee and associated working groups to develop sustainability strategies aimed at resource conservation and GHG emission mitigation.
- Job Requirements- Masters designation in business, planning, sustainability or appropriate field
- Registered Professional Engineer
- Registered Engineering Technologist
- BCIT Sustainable Energy Management Associate
- UBC Masters in Clean Energy
- Certified Journeyman Electrician with 20 years’ experience
- Certified Technician (HVAC, instrumentation or other relevant discipline) with 20 years’ experience
**And one further education course**:
- Van City - Carbon Footprint - GHG Program
- LEED Professional Accreditation
- Courses related to maintenance and management of HVAC systems
- Project Management Professional (PMP) qualification
- Master of Business Administration (MBA) from a Canadian university
- Relevant further education in the energy management field
**Additional Requirements**:
- Minimum five years’ experience in complex organization including roles responsible for:
- Supervision
- Capital project management / project management
- Customer service
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership role in complex work environments with a well-developed sense of organizational awareness and capacity to interface with both internal and external parties in multiple management and operational levels
- Familiarity and knowledge of energy efficient technologies, an interest in new and emerging innovations and alternatives to conventional/traditional energy sources
- Ability to map business process/workflow and identify efficiencies
- Ability to develop evidence-based, compelling business cases and write comprehensive reports
- Experience with financial analysis
- Experience with budget creation, budget preparation, analysis, reporting and management
- Proven ability to contribute to on-time, on-budget delivery of projects including track record of foreseeing and mitigating project risks, navigating steps to solve problems/remove barriers where needed
- Ability to remain flexible to adjusting business operations in support of strategic priorities
- Demonstrated ability to foster a team approach aimed at accomplishing the university’s goals and to positively influence people and events using consultative, consensus-building techniques
- Outstanding organizational skills and ability to plan and manage time
- Ability to multitask, work under pressure and shift priorities as/when required
- Excellent communication skills - written and verbal - including ability to deliver senior management-level presentations
- Superior interpersonal skills, including ability to negotiate effectively
- Positive attitude and professional approach to working relationships including an ability to “coach”, inspire support and where needed
- Well-developed work ethic and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team
- Proven ability to work well under pressure
- Commitment to exercising good judgment and respect confidentiality
- Valid BC driver’s license

- Commitment to and interest in supporting the management of a broad array of duties spanning from repetitive, routine tasks to complex matters
- Sound knowledge of the BC post-secondary system and more specifically, RRU’s mission, vision, business strategy and current program offerings
- Proficiency with MS Office software products including project management tools
- BOMA Building Operator e-Energy training
- LEAN or Six Sigma training
- Additional Information- This is a regular, full-time position working 37.5 hours per week. This position has been evaluated at MPT-D with a salary range of $84,423 (minimum) to $99,223 (midpoint) to $114,023 (maximum) per annum. Employment offers will normally be made between the minimum and midpoint of the range and are determined by knowledge, experience and internal equity.
