Youth Tenant Support Worker

CMHA Kelowna is hiring a full-time Youth Tenant Support Worker for our McCurdy Place Supportive Housing program. This position is a full-time, 40 hours per week Friday to Tuesday, 11:30pm-7:30am.
**WHO IS A YOUTH TENANT SUPPORT WORKER?**
The Youth Tenant Support Worker is responsible for supporting young people who will be housed on a Youth specific floor at the McCurdy Place Supportive Housing Site. The residents will be those who were homeless or at risk of homelessness and are actively engaging in their recovery journey. The Youth Tenant Support Worker works with a team to build individualized care plans that include; health referral and advocacy, social connection, life skills development, employment and education support. The Youth Tenant Worker provides support to clients to address quality of life issues that affect their health, wellness and connection with the community they live in and aims to achieve housing stability for each young person and foster independence.
**WHAT DOES A YOUTH TENANT SUPPORT WORKER DO?**
- Foster and maintain excellent collaborative relationships with housing, health and social service professionals addressing clients’ outstanding needs;
- Create care plans to focus on housing stability, personal goals and safety
- Connect clients to income supports to which they are entitled: Income Assistance, Persons With Disability (PWD), GST rebates, income tax rebates, advocacy with income assistance personnel;
- Work in Collaboration with the Ministry of Child and Family Development for participants who are minors and are in the care of MCFD.
- Develop and facilitate life skills programming
- Liaise with community agencies and businesses to fulfill program needs and ensure a smooth flow of information and resources;
- Provide appropriate information and referrals to appropriate agencies;
- Provide an ethical, efficient and therapeutic approach to dealing with crisis intervention in a timely manner;
- Provide safe care to the client in potentially dangerous situations;
- Prepare referral letters and offer referral information to client;
- Maintain files, case notes and daily statistics;
- Maintain timely statistics regarding contacts and activities;
- Meet regularly with Team Lead and Support Workers;
- Update information as required to assist other agencies;
- Administer medication through the Safe Medication Storage Program;
- Provide Home Support in units to help with life support skills building;
- Participate in Case Management meetings and carry an ongoing case load;
- Other duties as required.
- Grade 12 as well as a Diploma in Community Social Service or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience or other qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of work;
- Criminal Record Check in the Vulnerable Sector is required;
**YOUR STRENGTHS & EXPERIENCE**:
- Experience working specifically with youth and the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD);
- Experience providing mediation/conflict resolution;
- Demonstrated skill in supporting youth experiencing homelessness and providing quality, evidence-based services;
- Computer literacy skills;
- Written and verbal communication skills;
- Knowledge of health and social service systems with understanding of the complexity of the income assistance system;
- Experience working with people experiencing homelessness, including those with serious mental illness and/or addictions and complex health and social issues;
- An ability to manage a flexible work schedule;
- Current first aid certification is considered an asset.
