Position Summary:
The Global Engagement Advisor (Asia, Middle East, Oceania) works in the Office of the Provost and Vice-Principal (Academic) (OPVPA), as part of the team led by the Director, Global Engagement (GE), which provides leadership on key international initiatives and serves as a central contact point for information on the University's global activities. Reporting directly to the Associate Director (GE), actively implements McGill’s internationalization strategy in the region of geographic expertise (Asia, Middle East, Oceania) by facilitating smooth and constructive collaboration among key internal stakeholders. Maintains a strong network of external stakeholders with ties to the region of geographic expertise and identifies ways to build synergies between internal and external stakeholders and to advance the achievement of strategic objectives. Develops growth and business prospects in the region of expertise. Performs research and analysis to promote data-based decision making throughout the implementation process and streamlines data collection practices with respect to McGill’s international activities. Develops and implements tools and procedures to facilitate new internationalization initiatives, ensure effective engagement of key university stakeholders, and cultivate a culture of global mobility and openness. Keeps internal and external partners and constituencies informed about existing international activities.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Acts as advisor for the advancement of the international strategy in the geographic region of Asia, Middle East, and Oceania. Advises the Associate Director, Director, and internal stakeholders on opportunities and realities in the geographic region.
- Works on selected special projects arising from the implementation of the Provost’s international strategy and works proactively with other stakeholders to complete the projects in a timely and measurable manner.
- Stays abreast of changing realities in the geographic area, including trends in higher education and changing political situations. Reviews agreements and partnerships to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines.
- Makes recommendations on requests for visits from foreign groups and makes suggestions regarding their relevance. Refers requests to other areas of potential visitor interest at the University. Collaborates with other faculties and units on visits requiring the involvement of the Director, GE.
- Plans and organizes visits from international institutions, ensuring that visits support strategic priorities and follow visit guidelines. Suggests internal participants, designing the overall event plan and ensuring participation from the faculties and other relevant units, writes briefing memos, creates presentations, highlights protocol needs and cultural considerations, and drafts follow-up correspondence. Oversees logístical arrangements for inbound visits, including parking, catering, venue booking and setup, etc.
- Builds a strong network of external partners with ties to the region of geographic expertise, including but not limited to academics, governmental representatives, international organizations, and private sector representatives. Actively seeks out opportunities to engage external stakeholders and to promote project cross-pollination.
- Reviews and recommends requests for partnerships and collaborations received directly from foreign institutions or diplomatic missions, conducting background research when necessary. Liaises with appropriate faculties to gauge their interest in such ventures. Drafts and ensures the prompt delivery of a courteous response to such requests.
- Oversees the preparation of strategic country briefings and institutional briefings, ensuring that briefings remain updated and pertinent. Performs internet searches, obtains data, analyzes, and condenses information into a useful format suitable for senior administrative use.
- Coordinates with the GE Administrator to ensure broad and effective communication of international activities and opportunities. Increases the web visibility of the GE unit by developing and maintaining updated information on the GE web portal. Updates the portal’s content, including information for external visitors and prospective partners, guidelines and tips for internal stakeholders, and promotional materials on new international initiatives at McGill.
- Represents the GE team at meetings of relevant committees as required, including working group meetings on projects and initiatives within the region of expertise.

Other Qualifying Skills and/or Abilities
- Bachelor’s degree required. Three years’ relevant experience.
- Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, in both English and French. Additional foreign language skills with regional relevance are a plus.
