Overview:

- Acting as trusted advisors to people managers and HR Consultants / HR Business Partners by recommending business options based on comprehensive risk assessments of relevant background information and providing pragmatic solutions to complex sensitive employee matters.
- Monitoring and advising on changes in the employment law landscape to mitigate risk and ensure KPMG’s compliance posture across each province in which it operates.
- Developing and maintains workplace policies and procedures that comply with provincial, such as Respect at Work, Occupational Health & Safety, Accessibility, Overtime, Statutory Holidays, etc.
The team is known for its agility to respond to a rapidly changing talent environment and business pressures that requires us to take on new work / services.
The incumbent can be affiliated with any of the following offices: Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto, Vaughan or Montreal.
What you will do:
- Legislation Scanning_
- Ensure the Firm maintains a strong compliance posture by staying ahead of Canadian employment-related legislative changes, emerging issues and best practices;
- Assess and communicate impacts of legislative changes to KPMG’s practices, controls and processes and conduct review to identify actions required to ensure compliance.
- Identify new policy requirements resulting from changes in legislation. Update and publish existing policies.
- Conduct and document research related to employment standards and other employment-related legislation.

- Manage annual policy reviews for all ERS-owned policies and guidelines
- Collaborate with different departments to understand their policy needs.
- Draft new policies and revise existing ones. Assess impact of policy updates, including process / automation / reporting implications
- Ensure that policies comply with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Communicate and explain policies to employees and stakeholders.
- Compliance_
- Act as the ERS Accessibility Program manager by: becoming knowledgeable of Canadian Accessibility-related legislation to be able to provide interpretation of relevant policies and legislation; ensuring KPMG’s compliance with related legislation by identifying gaps and creating action plans to close the gaps; and regularly reviewing associated mandatory trainings to ensure continued alignment with legal requirements, policies and KPMG’s corporate structure.
- Manage the various cyclical regulatory, compliance & program effectiveness reporting by: preparing the required data; updating dashboard data; drafting reports; liaising with external program stakeholders; and as required, produce quarterly evidence reports to support SoQM controls testing.
- Develop and / or manage processes that ensure KPMG’s compliance with employment-related legislation
- As required in each province, communicate mandatory posting requirements to local office contacts and confirm compliance. Ex: ESA poster, policies, etc.
- Change Management_
- Support change management initiatives of varying scope and type, related to ERS policy, program and process changes, including readiness assessments, planning, stakeholder management, execution, evaluation and sustainment of initiatives.
What you bring to this role:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in HR or policy role in a provincially-regulated workplace with operations across multiple provinces
- Knowledge of relevant legislation and regulations
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with proven experience in policy development and writing
- Experience conducting research, assessing the impact and making recommendations as a result of the findings
- Organized and can manage multiple small projects and tasks to a timeline.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Word and MS PowerPoint is essential. Experience with Visio and SharePoint are assets.
- Bilingualism (French) an asset but not mandatory.
- Demonstrated Attention to detail.
- Proficiency in English at a business level is required
