Youth Outreach Worker

**YOUTH OUTREACH WORKER**
**Full time term position**
**One year term with possibility of extension**
**Wage: $17.10 - $20.57 per hour**
Reporting to the Supervisor - Programs and Services, the Youth Outreach Worker will provide outreach and support to youth who may be at-risk, vulnerable, marginalized and living within the communities we serve.
The responsibilities of this position are two-fold. Working with children and youth on an individual or group basis, the Youth Outreach Worker will provide motivation, encouragement and support to help them to develop skills to make positive changes in their lives. This may include advocacy, intervention, risk assessments, and referrals to other professional services when the issues are complex. Additionally, the Youth Outreach Worker will lead planning and facilitation of skill-based and emotional development programs with the goal of increasing knowledge and skills around mental, physical and social health.
Key Responsibilities and Activities:
- Perform outreach to and advocacy for children and youth, including the family units.
- Plan, develop, coordinate and run a variety of trauma-informed child/youth programs that engage children and youth in new adventures and experiences to assist participants to develop new skills and increase independence and resiliency.
- Perform in-the-moment mental health support and longer-term follow through for participants.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations, networks and service providers who work with the client population to promote relevant health promotion/harm reduction education, awareness and linkages to support services
- Volunteer recruitment, scheduling, training and mentoring.
- Actively participate in program evaluation.
- Perform related administration including entering information into the database, creating and distributing communication materials; creating monthly activity reports; preparing/maintaining financial reports, etc.
- Take part in the daily activities and events of the Resource Centre.
Education and Experience
- A university degree in a relevant discipline required, bachelor of social work is preferred.
- A minimum of three years' related experience working with children and youth in a community setting is required
*An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of child development, behaviour management, interpersonal communication and conflict resolution
- Comfort in working with marginalized, vulnerable populations in an environment that poses an elevated level of risk
- Strong knowledge of issues affecting marginalized communities and relevant vulnerable sector clients
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work both independently and as part of a team
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required by program needs
- Valid Manitoba driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle for travel within the City of Winnipeg
- Capable of lifting up to 40 pounds
Family Dynamics may establish an eligibility list of 6 months from this competition, to use in future competitions for various positions - part-time, full-time, ongoing and term.
