Functioning as a team player, the Medical Laboratory Assistant-Pathology will support all staff in the provision of quality laboratory services to assist physicians and other health care providers in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease. This includes performing technical and non-technical procedures as required, under the general supervision of a Pathology Assistant. Required to perform relevant pathology specimen handling and processing procedures assisting Pathologists and Pathologist Assistants. The Medical Laboratory Assistant

QUALIFICATIONS:

- Graduate of an accredited Laboratory Assistant Program.
- Certification as Medical Laboratory Assistant with the Medical Laboratory Professionals' Association of Ontario (Formerly Ontario Society of Medical Technologists) or the Canadian Society of Medical Laboratory Science
- Recent related clinical experience as a medical laboratory assistant in a pathology laboratory environment
- Demonstrated knowledge, experience, and/or skills in pathology techniques and morgue-related duties
- Applies knowledge, skills, judgment, and competencies required for independent and relevant practice
- Applies Niagara Health values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service
- Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem-solving.
- Working knowledge of computers, Laboratory Information Systems and other related Hospital systems
- Consistent and regular attendance required
- Proficiency in both official languages (English and French) will be considered an asset
