The Energy Operation division is responsible for leasing and maintaining Alberta’s Crown mineral rights and for calculating, assessing, collecting, and reconciling royalty revenues from natural gas, natural gas liquids, helium, conventional oil, oil sands, coal, and metallic and industrial minerals on behalf of Albertans. In addition, the division looks after Petrinex, which is a key volumetric reporting system for industry and western Canada.

The Royalty Operations branch plays a key role in the development of Alberta’s energy industry and collects revenue from the development of Alberta’s conventional oil and natural gas resources on behalf of Albertans. Energy development in Alberta is a key driver of Alberta’s economy and the Royalty Operations branch is a significant contributor of revenue to the province.

**Role Responsibilities**:

Royalty Operations, within the Energy Operations Division under the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, currently has three positions available for agile and results-driven managers who provide leadership, direction and oversight to their teams, developing innovative solutions to ensure correct reporting, assessment and timely management and collection of conventional oil and gas royalty revenues.

The manager positions report to directors within Royalty Operations. The first position manages the Royalty Accounting team to ensure timely and accurate gas royalty payments from industry. The second position is a temporary two-year term that manages the Volumetric and Cost Reporting team to ensure production reporting is complete, timely and accurate. The third position is a temporary one-year term that manages the Oil Royalty Assessment team which calculates the conventional oil royalty for the province and ensures all royalty volumes are delivered to the Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission. All positions oversee and verify industry compliance within the regulations specified for various oil and gas royalty regimes, and are responsible for resolving difficult royalty reporting, calculation and collection issues, communicating with industry clients on a regular basis, and providing input into developing relevant procedures and policies.

**Manager, Royalty Accounting (permanent)**: responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Ensure all key activities related to Royalty Accounting administration are managed and processed in a timely fashion.
- Review and approve credit refunds, royalty deposit adjustments, collections arrangements, write offs.
- Work closely with Tenure and other business areas to ensure timely notification of leaseholder action and maintain efficient debt collection workflow processes.

**Manager, Volumetric and Cost Reporting (two-year temporary)**: responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Ensure all key activities related to Volumetric and Cost Reporting with associated process support are managed and processed in a timely fashion.**Manager, Oil Royalty Assessment (one-year temporary)**: responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Manage the calculation, delivery, collection and settlement of conventional oil royalty.
- Manage the calculation and administration of C* for conventional oil and natural gas.
- Ensure the correct conventional oil royalty is collected by ensuring all industry data reporting is in compliance with legislation, policy, and procedures.

- Provide leadership and direction to ensure efficient and cohesive operations of the Royalty Operations Branch.
- Ensure Legislation, regulations, business rules, operational policies and business processes are developed, implemented, evaluated, and continually enhanced so that the unit effectively supports business plan goals.
- Support Directors and Executive Director to set and accomplish Branch, Division, and Department goals.
