**Summary**:
Native Child and Family Services of Toronto strives to provide a life of quality, well-being, caring and healing for our children and families in the Toronto Indigenous Community. We do this by creating a service model that is culture-based and respects the values of Native people, the extended family, and the right to self-determination and through the integration of holistic, culturally based prevention services that are child centred, family focused, and community driven.

**Primary Responsibilities**:
Under the direction of the Supervisor of Family and Community Programs, the Family Peacekeeping Worker will;
- ** **Plan, develop and implement sound programming for youth aged 10 - 29 years old.
- Promote and provide Indigenous activities, teachings, and practices within all programming.
- Receive referrals and connect directly to community members through engagements such as one-on-one interactions, in-person and virtual consultations, community events, webinars, and others
- Provide outreach and service in “non-traditional”, culturally appropriate, and community-based ways that are responsive to the needs of gang involved families and communities.
- Provide culturally appropriate prevention and intervention services to parents, caregivers and family members who support youth that are involved in gang involvement or on the pathway toward targeted violence and their families through service coordination, gang awareness education, employment and training supports, parenting skills development, cultural and community education, mental health supports.
- Liaise, consult and collaborate with key stakeholders in the community: City services, Toronto Community Housing Corporation, Provincial Youth Outreach Workers, Probation and Parole, Boards of Education, Ontario Works Family Caseworkers, mental health and employment focused agencies and other service providers as a required regarding the needs of gang involved families.
- Outreach and facilitate community consultations.
- Assist external Family Wellbeing/Peacekeeping Teams (Zone 5) in establishing relationships with relevant community groups such as landlords, superintendents, building managers and tenant groups to increase engagement and uptake in the pilot program.
- Receive support from and work in collaboration with the Youth Peacekeeping Coordinator to execute tasks.
- Attend regular team meetings for updates; ability to be agile as the pilot progresses
- Attend all relevant training opportunities provided by Family Wellbeing/Peacekeeping Teams, the City, agency partners etc.
- Attend and contribute to "peer to peer” Community of practice monthly meetings for ongoing information sharing, decompression, and issues escalation
- Complete and submit reports at the end of each shift to identify outreach findings and trends
- Outreach regularly to ensure services are provided to youth in need.
- Communicating the mission, values and operating principles of the organization to employees, and other stakeholders.

**Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills**:

- Post-secondary education at the community college level in Child and Youth Work or related field or alternatively actively working toward post-secondary education within the field.
- Have a high literacy in Indigenous culture.
- Lived experience and or experience working with most vulnerable gang involved youth and or families in conflict with the law, social justice systems and or marginalized communities.
- Current Vulnerable Sector Screening - Police Reference Check and willing to obtain new one upon hire.
- This position requires the flexibility to work days, evenings and weekends
- Knowledge of the developmental stages of children and youth
- Knowledge/understanding of the unique dynamics that exist within the Aboriginal, Inuit, and Métis cultures.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; organizational skills; initiative and respect for confidentiality.
- Demonstrated understanding, and commitment to, integrating the Native Child and Family Services of Toronto Mission and values in to practice, service and relationships.
- Demonstrated understanding of workplace Health and Safety practices and understanding of an employee’s responsibility under current legislation.
- Ability to work effectively with all levels of staff, to maintain effective communication and working relationships, demonstrating strong interpersonal skills, tact, sensitivity and build strong internal relationships.
