**Summary**:
Native Child and Family Services of Toronto strives to provide a life of quality, well-being, caring and healing for our children and families in the Toronto Indigenous Community. We do this by creating a service model that is culture-based and respects the values of Native people, the extended family, and the right to self-determination and through the integration of holistic, culturally based prevention services that are child-centred, family focused, and community-driven.

The Financial Advocacy Worker (FA) will be responsible for providing direct financial advocacy, empowerment and problem-solving, and referral to all necessary supports to clients experiencing financial hardship and poverty-related challenges. Services may include the provision of financial literacy and education, support filing taxes, personal budgeting supports, debt management supports, advocacy and referral for government benefits not already being accessed.

**Primary Responsibilities**:
**Case Management**
- Provides individual, family, or group support and intervention to clients using a range of appropriate methodologies and techniques to best meet client needs.
- Delivers referrals related to specific NCFST programming.
- Participates as a member of a team in the planning and delivery of multi-service, client-centered, case management plans.
- Liaises with professional and community staff to provide support services in line with the case management plan.
- Develops ongoing referral relationships within the health, education, legal and social services systems.
- Maintains an understanding of legislation and government prescribed procedures, regulations and standards of NCFST programs, and in keeping with Ministry guidelines and regulations.

**Financial Empowerment, and Advocacy**:

- Supports financial assessments of individuals and families experiencing financial and poverty-related challenges.
- Formulates and develops client-centered service plans with clients; including financial crisis interventions, internal agency response and referrals, linkages and referrals to external resources and follow-up.
- Provides personal budgeting and money management support to clients dealing with financial hardship and poverty relate challenges.
- Supports clients in accessing appropriate financial interventions such as tax filing, income benefits and supports, opening bank accounts, debt repayment programs, RESPs, and RDSPs.
- Supports clients with completing and filing their taxes in order to maximize access to government support.
- Provides empowerment, advocacy and problem-solving support to help clients navigate complex financial systems such as CRA and banking.
- Assists clients with the completion of government and other relevant forms.
- Leads in all areas related to the creation and distribution of financial literacy and empowerment materials for clients and staff including individual and group financial literacy training.
- Liaises with community tax clinics as needed.
- Maintains current knowledge of government and community supports for clients experiencing financial challenges.

**Administration and Other**:

- Maintains accurate and timely client-related documentation, records and data collection for internal and external reporting purposes.
- Maintains positive relationships with Agency staff and other community agencies/resources; networking with related professional organizations.
- Maintains an understanding of legislation and government prescribed procedures, regulations and standards of NCFST programs.
- Represents the Agency’s mission, vision and values in the community.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications, Knowledge and Skills**:

- Strong understanding and practice of Indigenous approaches to healing, including land-based practices and cultural knowledge.
- Connection to FNIM communities and knowledge and awareness of the diverse urban Indigenous population.
- Case Manager skills and abilities.
- Minimum post-secondary education and or lived experience.
- Adult education, coaching and group facilitation experience.
- Knowledge and/or expertise in all aspects of personal finance and the financial system, including relevant legislation, income benefit programs, other government programs and policies related to people’s finances and specifically low-income populations.
- Experience with U-file and CRA tax filing programs and documentation an asset.
- Experience working with people from marginalized and diverse communities, including individuals with mental health and other related issues. Ability to engage clients and peers and develop collaborative working relationships.
- Strong assessment skills.
- Attains a degree of fluency in the area of landlord/tenant disputes.
