**Duties and Responsibilities**:
The Media Specialist within the Faculty of Public Affairs is responsible for:

- creation, ongoing maintenance and enhancement of the ODFPA website as well as other specifically identified ODFPA-related sites;
- planning and creation of select new websites including the provision of training to select individuals;
- design and creation of images, event materials, as well as Faculty promotional materials, including the creation of original design work as well as photography and videography;
- establishing and maintaining an appropriate social media presence for the Faculty of Public Affairs;
- producing electronic newsletters and other products geared to the entire Faculty of Public Affairs community (faculty, staff, undergraduate students, graduate students and alumni) or portions thereof; and
- additional duties as the Media Specialist’s field of work evolves and as the Faculty evolves.

The Media Specialist reports to the Team Lead, ODFPA Communications working under the general direction and guidance of the Dean. Depending on the task at hand, the Media Specialist may receive direction and guidance from any of the Associate Deans, but in particular from the Associate Dean, Research and International as well as the Associate Dean, Students and Enrolment. The Media Specialist works in close collaboration with the Undergraduate Recruitment Officer and the Event Coordinator as well as the Unit Media Specialist and the Research Team.

**Qualifications**:
The incumbent must possess the following technical and software qualifications:
Website
- Must have an expert knowledge of web best practices (e.g., User Interface (UI)/User experience (UX) best practices, Search Engine Optimization (SEO) best practices).
- Must be proficient with content management system based websites, ideally WordPress, and a thorough understanding of their back-end.
- Must be proficient with cross-browser/cross-platform issues and web standards.
- Must be proficient reviewing and analyzing web analytics using tools such as Google Analytics.
- Must be proficient using Adobe InDesign and Illustrator.
- Must have experience creating wireframes for page layouts to illustrate proposed website designs.
- Must have a demonstrated understanding of website architecture, design, and the development lifecycle including testing phases.
- Must have a solid understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) and standards.
- Must have knowledge of Search Engine Marketing (SEM).

Social Media and Cloud Services
- Must have expert knowledge of social media platforms: Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram and LinkedIn.
- Must have in-depth experience reporting on the effectiveness of social media.

Video Editing
- Some experience using any of Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere Pro, or After Effects.

Photography Editing
- Must have demonstrated experience editing photos, preferably using Adobe Photoshop.

Microsoft (MS) Office
- Must have expert knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
- Must have experience creating fillable forms using MS Word/Adobe Acrobat.

Other Skills
- Superior planning and organizational skills; understands critical path, sets priorities and meets timelines, with the ability to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong professionalism, tact and diplomacy.

**Education and Experience**:
**The above is normally acquired through**:

- The completion of a university degree.
- The completion of coursework, certificate or diploma programs at the college or university level in a minimum of one of the following: advertising, web design, social media, graphic design, photography and videography.
- A minimum of five years of related experience in web design and development, graphic design and social media, including two years of experience with photography, photo editing and videography and video editing.
- Not-for-profit or academic sector experience is an asset.
