**JOB SUMMARY**:
Social Development and Funding responds to current and emerging community needs through: funding and capacity building to support and strengthen community agencies; coordinating engagement strategies, action plans and partnerships with internal and community stakeholders; and developing and leading City-wide initiatives on behalf of the department and Council to promote equitable, inclusive and sustainable service delivery for a diversity of residents.

You are responsible for a portfolio of a group of not-for-profit organizations that are funded to deliver programs and services that address access to basics for vulnerable in Ottawa. You will develop and lead strategic initiatives and projects designed to improve client experiences and increase public engagement and satisfaction with municipal services. The strategic initiatives in the portfolio may include: The Older Adult Plan, Community Gardens, Ottawa Youth Engagement Committee, Snow Go, Community Development Fund and Community Funding Evaluation Framework Review.

One of the Specialists will support the development of the new age-friendly plan for the City of Ottawa. Working in collaboration with Council liaisons, community representatives and an interdepartmental staff working group, the Specialist will confirm the needs and priorities of older adults and identify actions and initiatives for inclusion in the new plan. The Specialist will manage a portfolio of funded not-for-profit agencies serving older adults and other priority populations and will support the Community Funding and Development unit to administer the priorities, policies and procedures of the Community Funding Framework.

You will design and/or develop plans for the implementation of innovative strategies for the initiatives using community capacity building, community development and program evaluation methods, and assessment and analysis of social policy, community issues, or related legislative changes affecting the public's experiences with municipal services. Special focus will be placed on working with community partners on strategies that enhance service experiences of often marginalized neighbourhoods and/or groups of residents which may include low income residents, immigrants, youth, aboriginal people, and seniors.

**EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE**:
Completion of 4 year university degree in social work, health, recreation, communications, general arts, social sciences, or a related field

Minimum of 7 years of related experience in community funding and development/support, including project management, program design, development, implementation, evaluation and policy development.

**KNOWLEDGE**:

- Planning, project and contract management techniques and methods and procedures for developing and presenting business cases, proposals and work plans

- Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers.
