Located within the territory of WSÁNEĆ (Saanich), Lkwungen (Songhees) and Wyomilth (Esquimalt) peoples, the BC Association of Aboriginal Friendship Centres (BCAAFC) is the umbrella association for the 25 Friendship Centres throughout the Province of British Columbia. The BCAAFC collaboratively works to promote and deliver accessible programs and services that target urban Indigenous peoples and that support their vision of health and wellness. The BCAAFC is seeking a skilled and motivated individual to conduct research and analysis, develop policies, provide technical advice, develop reports, and other written material related to urban/off-reserve Indigenous peoples.

The Indigenous Anti-Violence Advocate will support efforts to advance conditions for Indigenous women by clearly and consistently positioning the discussion and recommendations identified by BC Friendship centres, stakeholders and Advisory Collective members. The role will have a strong focus on building and maintaining relationships with decision-makers, anti-violence organizations, and Indigenous communities. Working in collaboration with the leadership team at the BCAAFC, the role will serve as the primary lead and representative for BCAAFC, be involved with community engagement, and serve as an educator on issues impacting Indigenous women, families, and communities.

**Key Duties and Responsibilities**
- Develop relationships with project partners including, but not limited to Battered Women’s Support Services, Aboriginal Housing Management Association and BC Society of Transition Houses.
- Support all anti-violence projects with supervising staff, maintain budgets, and reporting to the Special Projects Team lead
- Support the Path Forward project and funding allocations
- Supervising project assistant/s, other staff, and providing mentorship as required
- Identify and analyze urban/off-reserve Indigenous policy issues related to the social determinants of Indigenous health, poverty, housing, justice, violence, employment, and social services.
- Writing and reviewing anti-violence reports
- Assist with proposals to support long-term capacity building and organizational development, including grant writing as needed to continue anti-violence work
- Act as the primary point of contact for Advisory members, including compiling agendas, attending meetings, and taking minutes.
- Lead the annual planning process and coordinate the report presentation to the management team, and Advisory Collective
- Identify budgetary requirements for all new and existing partnerships, and provide that information to the BCAAFC
- Liaison with project funders to fulfill all reporting requirements
- Coordinating and monitor progress, and keep stakeholders informed the entire way
- Maintain a detailed project schedule and work plan

**Knowledge and Abilities**
- Demonstrated thorough knowledge of Indigenous communities, cultures, and perspectives, and understanding of barriers faced by urban/off-reserve Indigenous peoples
- Experience in working on Indigenous anti-violence programming
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including developing or editing reports, proposals, presentations and correspondence
- Excellent organizational, planning and time management skills, with the ability to multi-task, produce and coordinate projects to tight deadlines
- Ability to collaborate and work on a team, and function independently with mínimal supervision

**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in related field and a minimum of 2 years related experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered)
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and Indigenous service organizations
- Strong PC software skills including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)
- Project Management experience
- Financial and budget experience required
- Must be able to provide a current criminal record check.
- Valid BC Drivers License
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada; and legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and Regulations.

**Position Information**:

- Due to the COIVID-19 Pandemic, you may be required to work for home due to health regulations. The selected individual must be able to work from home when required and must have a stable internet connection and telephone/cell-phone. IT services and laptop will be supplied.
- This position is located at 551 Chatham St in downtown Victoria, some hybrid work-from-home days may be available after probation
- The workweek is 35 hours, some overtime and travel will be required
- This is a temporary position until March 31st, 2025. This position may be renewed at the end of the period dependent upon funding.
