The Indigenous Health Integration Lead supports strengthening the capacity and knowledge to respond to Indigenous specific racism and the provision of culturally safe, respectful, and racism-free healthcare services. In this role, you are an important contributor to system change by consulting and participating in knowledge translation of evidence and foundational documents into program development, strategy, practice and policy at Island Health. Reporting to the Director, Manager, or designate, this position supports health system transformation, where evidence is converted to knowledge and knowledge informs practice, strategy and policy in a continuous cycle of improvement. The Indigenous Health Integration Lead is highly a collaborative and engaging role; you will work closely with First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities and partners, internal leads and clinical teams to embed Indigenous Rights, perspectives, needs and priorities into population health, the health system and the delivery of health services on Vancouver Island.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education, Training And Experience**:
A level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in an Indigenous, administration or health related field. A minimum of 5 years' experience working within or directly with the Canadian health care system and/or First Nations, Métis or Inuit health sector, or in a similar capacity.

A key responsibility of this role involves providing an Indigenous specific lens to support the promotion of the interests and welfare of Indigenous peoples; Island Health views Indigenous identity as being directly relevant to this role. Preference will be given to individuals who self-identify as First Nations, Métis or Inuit.

**Skills And Abilities**:

- Ability to lead with cultural safety and humility and through a lens of trauma informed care/practice.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels internally and externally, including within health care, government and Indigenous Communities.
- Knowledge of Indigenous Peoples in the Vancouver Island region and an understanding of colonial impacts on health, wellness, public policy, and engagement.
- Knowledge of traditional and current Indigenous practices and approaches related to governance and decision-making.
- Demonstrated awareness of social determinants of health, Anti-Racism and equity, diversity, and inclusion principles/issues/trends.
- Knowledge and experience in development of Knowledge Translation and evaluation theories, principles and practice.
- Knowledge of broad range of research and evaluation processes and methodologies, including Indigenous methodologies and ethical considerations. Strong facilitation and negotiation skills.
- Applies exceptional problem-solving abilities; independently resolve issues both efficiently and resourcefully.
- Demonstrated commitment to the value of continuous learning.
- Demonstrated willingness to take initiative, be creative, and exercise sound judgement.
- Demonstrated ability to remain calm, alert and high functioning under stressful situations. Demonstrated ability to be tactful and diplomatic with a discreet manner.
- High degree of flexibility in a changing environment.
- Ability to work independently and as part of interdisciplinary teams. Ability to prioritize competing demands to meet deadlines.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
