The Anishinaabe Development Lead plays a critical role in advancing Indigenous education by leading a team of experts in developing high-quality, culturally relevant accredited programs. This position requires a deep understanding of Anishinaabe teachings, traditions, and values as well as expertise in curriculum and program development with full cycle accreditation processes.
**KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES**
**1. Curriculum Development**
a. Collaborate with Instructional Designers, Indigeogy Specialists, Language Specialists, and Curriculum Writers to create engaging and effective course content.
b. Ensure that the curriculum reflects Anishinaabe land, language, tradition, and culture.
c. Incorporate Anishinaabe pedagogies, such as story telling, experiential learning and land-based education.
d. Develop learning outcomes that align with the institutes mission as well as IAESC and MCU accreditation requirements.
**2. Program Development**
a. Lead the team in designing standalone accredited programs that address specific learning needs within the Indigenous community.
b. Conduct needs assessments to identify relevant topics and skills.
c. Coordinate the development process, including content creation, assessment design, and instructional materials.
d. Collaborate with external partners, Elders, and community members to infuse cultural knowledge into program offerings.
**3. Cultural Competency**
a. An in-depth understanding of Anishinaabe culture, traditions and history is essential. This includes knowledge of language, ceremonies, and community dynamics.
**4. Accreditation**
a. Ensure that all programs continuously exceed IAESC accreditation standards and participate in all aspects of evaluation and quality assurance processes as needed.
b. Work closely with the accreditation body to submit necessary documentation and undergo evaluation.
c. Maintain accurate records related to accreditation requirements.
d. Continuously monitor program quality and make improvements as needed to maintain compliance.
**5. Team Leadership**
a. Provide clear direction and mentorship to the team.
b. Foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
c. Manage project timelines and deliverables.
d. Encourage growth among team members.
e. Oversee direct reports.
f. Write timely reports for the Director of Academics.
g. Prepare interim and final reports for leadership and stakeholders.
h. Ensure that workplans operate within the approved budget.
**6. Community Engagement**
a. Engage with the NAN communities to gather feedback and ensure program relevance.
b. Attend community events, workshops, and gatherings.
c. Represent the Institute in external forums related to Indigenous education.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
**Education and Experience**
- Bachelor’s degree (master’s preferred) in Education, Indigenous Studies, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in program development, curriculum design, or a closely related role.
- A deep understanding and familiarity with IAESC accreditation processes.
- Demonstrated understanding and practical experience in Indigenous two-eyed seeing, braided learning theories.
- 3-5 years of experience working in an Indigenous organization with a focus on northern communities.
- Fluency in NAN dialect (Cree, Oji-Cree, or Ojibwe) an asset.
**ADDITIONAL INFORMATION**
The Anishinaabe Development Lead is based at the Centennial Square campus; however, travel to our NAN communities will be required.
