Youth Engagement Advisor

**Summary of duties**:
- The Youth Engagement Advisor will be expected to complete the Indigenous Cultural Competency and Trauma-Informed Training offered by York University and Nokiiwin Tribal Council
- Develop Junior Spirit Builder Program with current curriculum for youth aged twelve (12) to sixteen (16)
- Recruit volunteers aged twelve (12) to sixteen (16) within communities, schools and youth groups to join the program
- Develop a screening process for volunteers and determine interests
- Deliver Junior Spirit Builder Program through two-day camps, March break and July Summer Camps for twenty (20) youth who will be submersed in cultural teachings and the history of colonization.
- Arrange for guest speakers and presenters, including Elders and Knowledge Keepers to participate in each event
- Support youth and set up events to volunteer and earn their twenty (20) hours of volunteer experience
- Keep track of youth volunteer hours
- Create permissions forms and communicate with parents and guardians
- Arrange accommodations and transportation for youth and guests, as required
- Manage budget expenditures
- Track and document performance and deliverables and provide updates to the funder
**Preferred Qualifications**:
- Post-secondary degree or diploma in education, Indigenous studies, or another related field
- Experience working with youth
- Demonstrated ability at teaching and facilitation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Theoretical and practical experience working with curriculum development would be an asset
- Experience around coordinating events and gathering a team to support these events
- Strong writing, communications, and planning skills
- Demonstrated ability to work interpedently under tight deadlines
- Ability to travel and work in Nokiiwin communities
- Must be computer literate in Microsoft Office
- Knowledge of client management software would be an asset
- Fluency in Anishinaabe, knowledge and appreciation of Anishinaabe culture and heritage are assets
- Valid Driver’s License and current satisfactory Criminal Reference Check is required
- Successful completion of a Level 3: Vulnerable Sector Screening Check
