**Salary Range**:Commensurate with experience and education. **Who We Are**:
The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is an advocacy organization, taking direction and fulfilling mandates as directed by First Nations in-Assembly through resolutions. As a national advocacy organization for First Nations, the AFN seeks to advance First Nations Inherent and Treaty Rights through the development policy, public education and where applicable, the co-development of legislation to build First Nations capacity.

**The Role**:
The incumbent will also be responsible for the achievement of defined work plans and objectives aimed at supporting and advancing AFN’s national advocacy positions, interests and strategies in First Nations Environmental Health related issues and priorities, including chemicals management, environmental justice and protection, food security/sovereignty, climate change impacts, zoonotic diseases and nuclear waste management.

Reporting to the Director, Environment, the Policy Analyst will have the following key **duties and responsibilities**:

- Conduct comprehensive research and analysis on First Nations Environmental Health and other related programs and policies.
- Evaluate existing policies and regulations to identify gaps, inefficiencies and areas for improvement
- Collaborate with key partners, including First Nations Leadership, government officials and agencies, and community-based organizations, to gather insights and perspectives on priorities related to First Nations Environmental Health
- Develop evidence-based policy recommendations, briefing notes, speaking notes and reports for branch and sector leadership.
- Stay informed about current trends, best practices, latest developments and research findings related to First Nations Environmental Health policies.
- Participate in policy advocacy efforts internally within the AFN at various working groups, and participation in external meetings.

**Qualifications**:

- An undergraduate degree in environment, biology or social sciences or a related field of study with a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience related to First Nations Environmental Health programs
- Knowledge and understanding of the environmental health issues in First Nations communities, including environmental contaminants, pollution prevention, food safety/security, indoor/outdoor air quality, climate change impacts, and zoonotic diseases.
- Knowledge and understanding of related legislations such as the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to translate complex ideas and information to any audience;
- Demonstrated ability to research and understand statistical related terminology;
- Demonstrated experience analyzing large sets of complex and changing data, and communicating it in a clear and concise way, ensuring colleagues across the organization, Committees, First Nations leadership and other key stakeholders understand findings and recognize significance;
- Demonstrated experience working with First Nations, federal, provincial, territorial, northern, urban and international governments and officials;
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills, teamwork and judgement;
- Demonstrated time management, planning & organizational skills and
