**ACCOUNTABILITY**
The Paralegal will report to the Senior Property Manager.
**GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES**
In this role, the Paralegal will be supporting Property Managers and Senior Property Manager in our property management operations and legal affairs. As a Property Management Paralegal, you will be responsible for conducting legal research, preparing legal documents, and assisting in various property-related legal matters. Your strong knowledge of Ontario's real estate and property management laws will be instrumental in ensuring compliance and providing expert advice to the organization.
**DUTIES**
- **Legal Research**: Conduct comprehensive legal research on Ontario real estate laws, property management regulations, and other relevant legal matters to support the property management team's decision-making process.
- **Lease Agreements**: Draft, review, and analyze lease agreements and related documentation for residential and commercial properties, ensuring they comply with Ontario's laws and regulations.
- **Tenant Relations**: Assist in handling tenant-related legal matters, including lease violations, evictions, and dispute resolutions. Collaborate with property managers to ensure a fair and lawful resolution of tenant issues.
- **Landlord-Tenant Act Compliance**: Stay up-to-date with the Ontario Residential Tenancies Act and other relevant legislation, ensuring the company's property management practices align with the legal requirements.
- **Litigation Support**: Assist in preparing documents and gathering evidence for property-related litigation, as necessary. Strong working knowledge of Landlord and Tenant Board and its processes and represent St.Clare’s at the Landlord and Tenant Board Hearings.
- **Property Transactions**: Provide legal support for property acquisitions, sales, and other transactions, including reviewing contracts and assisting with closing processes.
- **Record Keeping**: Maintain accurate and organized legal files and databases, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date and readily accessible.
- **Compliance Monitoring**: Monitor regulatory changes and industry best practices, advising the property management team on necessary adjustments to maintain compliance.
- **Team Collaboration**: Work closely with property managers and senior to ensure legal matters are handled efficiently and effectively.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Must possess a valid paralegal license issued by the Law Society of Ontario.
- In-depth understanding of Ontario real estate laws, property management regulations, and the Residential Tenancies Act.
- Previous experience in a paralegal role within the property management industry is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills to manage and maintain accurate legal records.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with tenants, property managers, and external legal counsel.
- Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide practical solutions within the framework of applicable laws.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines.
