**Salary Range**:Commensurate with experience and education. AFN offers competitive salaries, generous time off (3 weeks of paid vacation per year to start, paid time off for December-January holidays, 3 weeks of paid sick leave per year, 9 days of special leave per year), a pension and benefit plan, annual amounts towards physical fitness and professional development, and maternity & parental leave top up.

**Who We Are**:
The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is an advocacy organization, taking direction and fulfilling mandates as directed by First Nations in-Assembly through resolutions. **The Role**:
The Assembly of First Nations is seeking a motivated and professional individual who will be responsible for researching information and statistics, conducting analysis, and preparing written documents related primarily to First Nations Environmental Health.

Reporting to the Director, Environment, the Junior Policy Analyst will have the following key **duties and responsibilities**:

- Works with a team to advance AFN’s national advocacy positions, interests and strategies towards First Nations Environmental Health related issues and priorities, including chemical management, environmental justice and protection, food security/sovereignty, climate change impacts, zoonotic diseases, and nuclear waste management.
- Conducts research and analysis on First Nations Environmental Health and other related programs and policies.
- Evaluates existing policies and regulations to identify gaps, inefficiencies, and areas for improvement.
- Collaborates with key partners, including First Nations Leadership, government officials and agencies, and community-based organizations, to gather insights and perspectives on priorities related to First Nations Environmental Health
- Develops evidence-based policy recommendations, briefing notes, speaking notes and reports for branch and sector leadership.
- Stays informed about current trends, best practices, latest developments, and research findings related to First Nations Environmental Health policies.
- Other duties as assigned by the Director, Environment.

**Qualifications**:

- A post-secondary degree in environment, biology or social sciences or a related field of study with a minimum of 1-2 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience related to First Nations Environmental Health programs.
- Knowledge and understanding of the environmental health issues in First Nations communities, including environmental contaminants, pollution prevention, food safety/security, indoor/outdoor air quality, climate change impacts, and zoonotic diseases.
- Knowledge and understanding of related legislations such as the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to translate complex ideas and information to any audience.
- Ability to research and understand statistical related terminology.
- Experience working with First Nations, federal, provincial, territorial governments and officials is an asset.
- Teamwork, time management, planning and organizational skills and attention to detail.
- English is the working language however the ability to work in both official languages (English/French) is an asset. Fluency in a First Nations language is also an asset.
