**Location**: Ottawa (hybrid) is preferred, open to other locations if a suitable applicant is found.
**Salary Range**: Commensurate with experience and education. AFN also offers generous time off (3 weeks of paid vacation per year to start, paid time off for December-January holidays, 3 weeks of paid sick leave per year, 9 days of special leave per year), a pension and benefit plan, annual amounts towards physical fitness and professional development, and maternity & parental leave top up.

**Who We Are**

The Assembly of First Nations (AFN) is an advocacy organization, taking direction and fulfilling mandates as directed by First Nations in-Assembly through resolutions. As a national advocacy organization for First Nations, the AFN seeks to advance First Nations Inherent and Treaty Rights through the development policy, public education and where applicable, the co-development of legislation to build First Nations capacity.

**The Role**

The Assembly of First Nations is seeking an experienced, skilled, and motivated individual who will be responsible for researching information and statistics, conducting analysis, and preparing written documents related primarily to First Nations economic development.

The Junior Policy Analyst reports to the Director of Economic Development and has the following key **duties and responsibilities**:

- Research and Analysis: Conduct research on various policy issues and gather data from multiple sources. Analyze and interpret data to provide insights into the policy implications.
- Policy Development: Assist in the development of policy proposals and recommendations based on research findings. Collaborate with senior analysts and policy experts in formulating effective policies.
- Report Writing: Prepare clear and concise reports summarizing research findings, policy options, and recommendations. These reports may be used for internal purposes or to inform Partner s and decision-makers.
- Data Collection and Management: Collect, organize, and maintain data related to policy analysis. Ensure data accuracy and update databases regularly.
- Partner Engagement: Engage with Partners, including First Nations Leadership, government officials, and industry representatives, to understand their perspectives and incorporate feedback into policy analysis.
- Literature Review: Conduct literature reviews and stay up-to-date with relevant research and policy developments in the field to inform analyses.
- Policy Communication: Assist in communicating policy recommendations to various audiences through presentations, briefings, or written materials.
- Collaborative Projects: Participate in interdisciplinary teams to work on projects that involve multiple policy areas.
- Professional Development: Continuously improve your knowledge and skills related to policy analysis through training, workshops, and staying informed about emerging trends in public policy.
- Other duties as assigned by the director.

**Qualifications**
- Post-secondary degree in a related field of study and 1-2 years of directly relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- A minimum of 1 year of experience working with First Nations, and related policies.
- Knowledge and understanding of the issues in First Nations communities, specifically economic development.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills and ability to translate complex ideas and information to any audience
- Demonstrated ability to research and interpret statistical related terminology
- Demonstrated experience analyzing large sets of complex and changing data, and communicating it in a clear and concise way, ensuring colleagues across the organization, Committees, First Nations leaders
