The opportunity
Our Treasury team plays a critical role by building out a sound infrastructure to support and maximize CWB’s balanced growth targets. We are seeking a focused and driven Assistant Vice President (AVP) of Treasury Balance Sheet Execution to form part of its leadership team. Reporting to the Sr AVP, Balance Sheet Execution and working closely alongside the SVP & Treasurer, the AVP will help to manage the bank’s consolidated balance sheet from an execution perspective with a special focus on interest rate risk, funding risk, and liquidity risk.
The AVP, Balance Sheet Execution will play an integral role in the day-to-day management of investment portfolios ~$4bn and derivative books ~$9bn including authorization to execute derivative and fixed income trades in line with the relevant internal policies. As part of the balance sheet execution team, they will be responsible to generate trade ideas, hedging and asset allocation strategies while being mindful of overall balance sheet, internal metrics, and external market dynamics.
Areas of focus
Balance Sheet Management- Actively analyze and monitor the fixed-income liquidity portfolio ~$4bn with a special focus on interest rate risk, funding risk, and liquidity risk- Monitor the bank’s interest rate risk by regularly examining balance sheet movement and financial market development and based on internal metrics such as Duration of Equity (DoE) and GAP.- Help manage GAP and DoE through thoughtful execution, strategies, and outlook, using the liquidity portfolio and derivative instruments.- Help measure and hedge risk related to optionality on the bank’s balance sheet.- Ensure execution of trades in line with prescribed limits and policies for both liquidity portfolio and derivatives.- Assist with the development and refinement CWB’s hedge accounting practice to bolster the bank’s capability to efficiently and effectively hedges interest rate risk- Support the development of hedging strategies that will be used to minimize P&L volatility including management of exposures related to various asset origination and funding programs, such as commitment pipeline, securitization, and capital market issuance.- Support the management of funds transfer pricing framework.- Assist the ongoing refinement of CWB’s front-to-back processes for settlement, MTM (mark to market), P&L and collateral management.- Assist with the bank’s regulatory/compliance activities for derivative and fixed income trading.- Provide support in the management of daily funding and liquidity needs of the bank through trading money market products, including overnight and short-term fixed-income products and FX derivatives.- Responsible for ensuring counterparty limits are following the liquidity portfolio and communicate regularly with Credit Risk Management.
Thought Leadership & Reporting- Provide own thoughts and views to the other senior Treasury members with respect to macroeconomic and market development.- Act as a trusted source for independent and authentic thinking on macroeconomics, geopolitics, and markets.- Provide accurate and insightful reporting at monthly ALCo meetings.- Provide guidance and advice for the FTP process
