JOB SUMMARY: UNDER THE GENERAL AUTHORITY OF THE ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES AND UNDER THE DIRECT SUPERVISION OF THE ADAPTED SERVICES COUNSELLOR, THE ADAPTED SERVICES COUNSELLOR (SPEECH AND LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST) SCREENS AND EVALUATES STUDENTS EXPERIENCING LEARNING CHALLENGES. THEY PERFORM DUTIES SPECIFIC TO THE ANALYSIS, SUPPORT, FACILITATION AND ADVISORY FUNCTIONS. THEY COLLABORATE IN THE PLANNING, DEVELOPMENT, IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION OF THE SERVICES OFFERED.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Participate in the detection of students with difficulties; provide consultations and individualized needs assessments for students requiring accommodations.
- Screen and evaluate students with medical conditions or specific diagnoses as well as students experiencing learning challenges specific to language, speech, or literacy.
- Determine and implement intervention plans to help support students requiring accommodations including support measures and assistive technology.
- Teach students, in groups or individually, to use strategies related to the improvement of reading, writing, reasoning, self-correction and assitive technology; provide specific recommendations regarding these strategies upon referrals to the College’s specialized resources.
- Organize, oversee and maintain student files in accordance with departmental procedures and Professional Order requirements.
- Assist in the coordination of Access Centre staff schedules, staff development, meetings, vacations and availabilities.
- Assist with the training and orientation of staff at the Access Centre staff.
- Assume a leadership role in the development of the Access Centre annual work plan, execute key orientations and submit report.
- Assess services of the Access Centre and adjust programs and services accordingly.
- Assess Access Centre initiatives and programs, review progress and submit report.
- Provide Faculty and Staff consultations regarding students registered with the Access Centre.
- Gather and disseminate information regarding students requiring accommodations and produce bi-annual statistical reports.
- Develop and facilitate activities that promote the personal and academic development of students requiring accommodations.
- Develop and facilitate workshops and conferences specific to students requiring accommodations, particularly students presenting with Specific Learning Disorders affecting literacy.
- Participate in college-wide events representing the Access Centre (ie. Open House, Parents’ Night).
- Support projects, research initiatives, programs of the Access Centre.
- Refer students to other professionals or organizations when required and appropriate.
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

**QUALIFICATIONS**:
**Education**:
Undergraduate degree in an appropriate field of specialization, particularly special education. Master’s Degree an asset.

Specific Requirements:

- Member of the OOAQ (Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec).
- Expertise in the diagnostic assessment of oral and written language skills with the young adult and adult population.
- Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize effectively.
- Ability to take initiatives in program development, animation and group facilitation.

Testing may be required to demonstrate knowledge of:
