Executive Office on Early Learning – State Office Teacher (12‑Month) Hawaiʻi State Department of Education seeks an experienced early childhood educator to serve as a 12‑month State Office Teacher, providing professional support to pre‑kindergarten schools across the state. Description This position is responsible for offering instructional and professional learning support to teachers and educational assistants in pre‑kindergarten classrooms. The goal is to enhance teacher knowledge, skills, practices, and dispositions, thereby improving the quality of learning experiences for children and families. Key Responsibilities & Duties Develop and deliver professional learning experiences focused on child development, quality interactions, curriculum, instruction, assessment, and family engagement. Apply evidence‑based practices aligned with adult learning principles to foster connections between research, theory, and classroom practice. Coach and mentor teachers, build and sustain professional learning communities, and support team‑building efforts. Coordinate the pre‑kindergarten professional learning support program, establish goals, develop implementation plans, evaluate effectiveness, and prepare reports for stakeholders. Facilitate access to early childhood resources and information for teachers and administrators, and act as a liaison between schools and the office. Engage in continuous professional learning and participate in action‑research and collaborative projects to advance the state early‑childhood strategic plan. Travel interisland and drive to schools as required to provide on‑site support and professional development. Maintain clear oral and written communication skills, engaging effectively with teachers, staff, legislators, and community partners. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree in early childhood education or child development preferred. Minimum six (6) years of experience as an early‑childhood teacher and experience working with adult learners. Completed a State Approved Teacher’s Education Program (SATEP) or possess a valid Hawaii teaching license. Strong knowledge of child development principles, curriculum design, formative assessment, data analysis, and family engagement. Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and support teachers in a fast‑paced, collaborative environment. Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of facilitating discussions and summarizing key points. Willingness and ability to travel interisland for professional development and support activities. Licensing & Certification Requirements For applicants not yet completing a SATEP, the department allows a maximum of three (3) years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license. The applicant must enroll in a Hawaii‑based SATEP and demonstrate active progress toward meeting Hawaii Teacher Standards Board requirements each year of employment. Pay and Benefits Compensation: 12‑month teachers are paid per the Bargaining Unit 05 12‑month salary schedule. Paid Time Off: 21 days of paid sick leave, 14 days of paid vacation, and all state/federal holidays. Health Insurance: State pays a portion of premiums for the State’s medical, drug, vision, and adult dental plans. Life Insurance: Free life insurance policy for employees and retirees. Flexible Spending Accounts and Retirement Plan contributions, including a State matching plan and possible eligibility for a tax‑sheltered annuity. Benefits such as Temporary Disability Insurance, Social Security, Workers’ Compensation, and Union representation are also available for qualifying employees.
