Executive Office on Early Learning - (12-Month) State Office Teacher, 606425 (2025-04671) Join the Hawaii State Department of Education as a State Office Teacher providing support to pre‑kindergarten programs on their campuses. Position Description This position is responsible for providing support to Hawaii Department of Education schools that offer pre‑kindergarten classrooms on their campuses. The role offers professional learning support and assistance that leads to improvements in the knowledge, skills, practices, and dispositions of pre‑kindergarten teachers and educational assistants, resulting in high quality learning opportunities for children and families. Key Responsibilities Develop and provide professional learning experiences on teacher roles, child development, quality interactions, curriculum, instruction, assessment, and family engagement. Use evidence‑based practices and principles of adult learning to structure professional learning communities. Facilitate access to early childhood professional resources and information for teaching staff and administrators. Act as a liaison between schools and the pre‑kindergarten program office, coordinating communication and support. Collaborate with the team to establish goals, develop implementation plans, evaluate the professional learning support program, and prepare required reports. Engage in ongoing professional learning related to early childhood education and adult learning to increase personal knowledge and skill set. Participate in action research, work groups, and projects with administrators and early childhood professionals to advance the pre‑kindergarten program and the state strategic plan. Provide coaching and mentoring to teachers and educational assistants, building team capacity. Maintain data‑driven decision making: document child play and work, analyze data, and apply findings to practice. Travel inter‑island to support schools and conduct professional development as needed. Work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment, handling multiple tasks and collaborating with stakeholders. Minimum Qualifications Completed a State Approved Teacher's Education Program (SATEP) to qualify for this teacher position. (If not completed, a maximum of three years to obtain a valid Hawaii teaching license, with enrollment in a licensing program required.) Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with an emphasis in early childhood education or child development (preferred). Minimum six years of experience as an early childhood teacher and experience working with adult learners. Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to speak to groups and communicate policies, programs, and issues effectively. Ability to coach/mentor, build teams, and engage in sustained conversations with active listening and clarifying skills. Excellent organizational skills and the capacity to manage multiple tasks and collaborate with legislators, department directors, and stakeholder groups. Benefits Compensation: 12‑month teachers will receive the Bargaining Unit 05 12‑month salary schedule for a full work year. 21 days of paid sick leave and 14 days of paid vacation plus State/Federal holidays during the school year. Health insurance: State pays part of premiums for the state‑sponsored medical, drug, vision, and adult dental plans. Group life insurance: Free life insurance policy for employees and retirees. Premium Conversion Plan: State deduction of health‑care premium costs before payroll taxes. Flexible Spending Accounts: Tax savings benefit program for eligible employees. Retirement plan: State contribution to a retirement plan for eligible employees, with early retirement options based on years of service. Tax‑shelter annuity (TSA) program for eligible employees. Deferred compensation and voluntary payroll deduction investment opportunities. Temporary disability insurance for eligible employees. Social security and workers’ compensation coverage. Union & collective bargaining: 12‑month teachers represented by the Hawaii State Teachers Association.
