Executive Office on Early Learning – 12‑Month State Office Teacher (606437) Position Overview: This role supports Hawaii Department of Education schools offering pre‑kindergarten classrooms across the islands. The teacher provides professional learning, coaching, and resources to improve pre‑kindergarten teachers’ and educational assistants’ knowledge, skills, and dispositions, resulting in high‑quality learning opportunities for children and families. Responsibilities Develop and deliver professional learning experiences focused on teacher roles, child development, quality interactions, curriculum, instruction, assessment, and family engagement. Use evidence‑based and adult‑learning principles to design learning activities that connect research with classroom practice. Build professional learning communities, guiding teachers to develop relationship‑based learning and support networks. Facilitate access to early childhood resources for staff and administrators, serving as a liaison between schools and the pre‑kindergarten office. Collaborate with the team to set goals, implement program plans, evaluate outcomes, and prepare required reports. Engage in ongoing professional development, collect and analyze data, and participate in action research and collaborative projects to advance the pre‑kindergarten program and the state strategic plan. Travel interisland to support schools, teachers, and professional development opportunities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Expertise in child development, learning principles, developmentally appropriate practice, curriculum design, formative assessment, data analysis, family engagement, and documentation of children’s play. Proficient coaching/mentoring and team‑building skills. Excellent oral and written communication; able to present to groups, explain programs, listen actively, paraphrase, ask clarifying questions, and summarize key points. Capacity to work in a fast‑paced environment, manage multiple tasks, and collaborate with partners, legislators, and stakeholders. Reliable driving and willingness to travel to schools across the islands. Minimum Qualifications Completion of a State Approved Teacher’s Education Program (SATEP) to qualify for the teacher position. Master’s degree in early childhood education or child development preferred. Minimum six years of experience as an early childhood teacher and experience working with adult learners. For candidates without a completed SATEP, a Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit is required upon hire, with a 3‑year window to complete a valid license through a licensed program. Compensation & Benefits Pay: 12‑month teachers receive the applicable Bargaining Unit 05 12‑month salary schedule for a 12‑month work year. 21 days paid sick leave, 14 days paid vacation, and State/Federal holidays (subject to collective bargaining agreement). Health insurance: State may cover part of premiums for eligible employees enrolled in state‑sponsored medical, drug, vision, and adult dental plans. Group life insurance and a deferred compensation plan for tax‑sheltered retirement investment. Workers’ compensation, temporary disability insurance, social security, and the right to union representation (Hawaii State Teachers Association). Other benefits include flexible spending accounts, premium‑conversion plans, and a Tax Shelter Annuity program.
