The University of Manitoba is looking for a Department (Facilities) Safety Coordinator. This position will be responsible for ensuring departmental compliance with all Environmental Health and Safety Office (EHSO) programs and supporting their implementation as needed. As a local subject matter expert in EHSO programs, this position will proactively assess risks, identify safety issues, and apply corrective measures. The role serves as a dedicated safety resource for Facilities, ensuring alignment with university-wide EHS initiatives. The position reports directly to the Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) and plays a key role in fostering a safe and compliant working environment across Facilities operations. Responsibilities • Provide ongoing safety expertise and guidance to Facilities staff and stakeholders. • Monitor, assess, and mitigate safety risks. • Develop, review, and maintain safety policies and procedures. • Coordinate with university-wide initiatives and report on compliance. Qualifications and Experience B.Sc. or degree in Environmental Science, Health and Safety, or related field. Minimum five years of experience creating or maintaining health and safety compliance programs. Solid knowledge of legislated health and safety requirements. Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills. Demonstrated research skills. Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Self‑motivated, adaptable, and organized. Patience, perseverance, and analytical problem‑solving ability. Calm and objective in stressful or emergency situations. Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and uphold professionalism and integrity. Good work record (attendance, punctuality). Benefits Competitive salary.
