- **DUTIES**
Reporting to the Director, Facility Management, the Safety & Compliance Officer supports and enhances safety practices within Facility Management operations at Red River College Polytechnic. This role works closely with Safety and Health Officers and the College’s Health, Safety, and Security department to ensure compliance with safety regulations and promote a culture of safety across all campuses.
- The Safety & Compliance Officer focuses on quality assurance by developing, implementing, and monitoring safety protocols related to construction, renovations, contractor safety, maintenance, managing records for environmental liabilities, and daily Facility Management operations.
- **REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS**
- Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety; other combinations of education and related experience in Facility Management or construction may be considered
- Significant experience in safety compliance in a facility management or construction environment.
- Experience conducting safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments with the ability to analyze safety data, conduct incident investigations, and recommend corrective actions
- Extensive knowledge of safety regulations and standards and practices, including COR safety certification requirements, asbestos management and hazardous materials handling
- Thorough understanding of safe work procedures (SWPs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs), specifically within Facility Management and construction environments
- Comprehensive knowledge of incident investigation techniques and risk assessment methodologies
- Extensive familiarity with relevant legislation and compliance requirements applicable to Facility Management in a college environment
- Proficiency in maintaining safety documentation and preparing compliance reports
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate with Safety Officers, contractors, and regulatory agencies
- Ability to recognize and escalate safety concerns appropriately while fostering a culture of safety
- Proficiency in using safety-related software, Microsoft Office Suite, and document management systems
- Experience building a respectful workplace culture that promotes diversity, learning and continuous improvement
**ASSET QUALIFICATIONS**
- Certifications related to construction safety, hazardous materials management (e.g., asbestos, confined space), or industrial hygiene
- Experience developing or supporting safety training programs
**CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT**
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
- This position may be required to travel
- This position may be required to work overtime
- Incumbent must hold a valid class 5 driver's license
