About the role
Reporting to the Vice President, People, the Director, Talent oversees the development and implementation of strategic, innovative, and fit for purpose talent practices with a goal of planning and enabling a future focused workforce for the overall organization. They are a key collaborator and thought partner in the overall People strategy. The Director champions talent management strategies and programs to support the broader People team and business leaders that drive outcomes in all areas of the talent management cycle, such as workforce planning, performance management (including coaching for performance), workforce engagement, learning and growth, rewards and succession.

The Director leads a team of four (4) experts in organizational development and change, people strategy, insights and engagement, total rewards and wellness, and learning and development and is a member of the People Leadership Team (PLT). As a member of the PLT, the Director collaborates with the other PLT members to ensure strategy and priority alignment and to inform talent management practices. The Director stays abreast of industry best practices and ensures alignment and integration of talent practices and programs across the organization that contribute to the achievement of Payments Canada’s strategic priorities.

What you’ll do
Talent Strategy & Management

  • Leading the development and implementation of a Talent Strategy for a workplace that promotes excellence and attracts and retains a high-performing and diverse workforce;
  • Overseeing, providing guidance and execution of talent management frameworks to support Payments Canada’s business objectives and goals;
  • Designing and implementing talent management practices, including development programs to address identified talent and skill gaps and promote workforce learning, growth, and retention;
  • Supporting the enhancement of talent management tools and technologies, such as Dayforce, to drive process efficiencies and optimize talent management workflows;
  • Overseeing the continual improvement of talent practices such as workforce planning, performance management, succession planning, leadership and career development programs and offerings, employee engagement and reward practices and processes.
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Providing strategic advice and leadership on organizational talent development practices to the executive and operational leadership teams (ELT / OLT);
  • Providing leadership and direction to four (4) direct report roles, ensuring alignment of People strategies and strong execution of programs;
  • Collaborating proactively with partners within the People team and across the organization on other talent-related practices, such as Recruitment, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, and Communications;
  • Acting as an internal talent broker to support the strategic deployment of talent within Payments Canada.
Change Management & Reporting
  • Driving initiatives that support organizational change and transformation efforts;
  • Reporting progress against talent management plans to leadership.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Human Resources, Psychology, Organizational Psychology;
  • Minimum ten (10) years of progressive experience in Human Resources or organizational Development, with a preference for at least five (5) years in an HR Business Partner or senior strategic advisor role, supporting high-level HR planning;
  • A minimum of five (5) years of leadership experience, ideally within the regulated financial services sector;
  • Proven experience working closely with senior executives and organizational leadership, demonstrating exceptional relationship-building, communication, and influencing skills;
  • A continuous learner with a strong awareness of industry trends and best practices;
  • Advanced consulting and facilitation skills with ability to effectively engage and collaborate with all levels of the organization;
  • Experience in building and overseeing the Talent functional budget and costs;
  • Demonstrated the ability to analyze data and make informed decisions;
  • Valid criminal and credit records check.
Preferred Qualifications
  • CHRL Designation or equivalent is an asset;
  • Previous experience in developing and implementing talent management strategies, along with demonstrated success in leading large-scale people change initiatives, is an asset.
Salary Range
  • Based on qualifications and experience: $134,837 and $168,547 CAD.
