HOURS of WORK: 40 hours per week

SCHEDULE: Monday to Friday, daytime hours with flexibility for some evening and weekend work as required.

As an IT Support Specialist at ICS, you will play a key role in providing technical assistance and training to our staff.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Technical Support and Training

  • Provides support to staff with IT problems.
  • Ensures staff computer workstations are in proper operating condition.
  • Communicates technology-related issues, upgrades, and changes to staff and supports them in technological transitioning as necessary.
  • Develops and delivers technical and cybersecurity training to enhance staff knowledge and ability.
  • Becomes proficient in the software and technological tools that the agency uses. Demonstrates application and functions to others as needed, provides suggestions on work methods, and troubleshoots as necessary.

Routine Monitoring and Maintenance

  • Monitors and maintains the LAN, network connections, and other network services such as email and internet.
  • Collaborates with the third-party IT consultant to solve major technological problems.
  • Participates in data backup and/or restoration as required per established procedures.
  • Participates in the agency’s technological planning and risk management efforts. Makes technological advancement recommendations to create efficiencies in workflows and processes.

Inventory Management

  • Maintains accurate inventory records of all IT equipment, phones, hardware, and software licenses.
  • Purchases approved equipment, phones, hardware, and licenses.
  • Provides necessary tech equipment to new and existing staff as needed.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, and EXPERIENCE:

  • Diploma in Information Technology or a related field
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in an IT support capacity.
  • Or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Support others with varying levels of technological knowledge and aptitude
  • Maintain positive and flexible approach while demonstrating a service mindset
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
  • High attention to detail
  • Learn and teach new technological tools and programs
  • High proficiency with Microsoft Office 365
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision while taking initiative and meeting deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally within ICS and with external partners.
  • Document and report information in written format

REQUIREMENTS

  • Legal ability to work in Canada
  • Valid BC Class 5 Driver's License or equivalent
  • Safe driving record
  • Ownership of a safe reliable vehicle insured with Business Use for $5M liability. (Reimbursement for the costs of additional insurance)
  • Physical requirements of the job include being able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., reach high places, access under desks, etc.
  • Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: Information Privacy, Cybersecurity, Mandt (1-day)
  • Consent to Criminal Record Check. (Reimbursement by the organization upon hire)
  • This position requires Union membership.
