The Manager, Volunteer Engagement oversees and coordinates national volunteer programs for Breast Cancer Canada (BCC). They are responsible for recruiting, training, and supervising volunteers, as well as creating a positive and fulfilling volunteer experience. Reporting to the Vice President, Annual Giving and Volunteer Development, the successful candidate will support the development of strategic volunteer engagement tactics and evaluate program effectiveness to meet the organization's goals.
The role of a Volunteer Engagement Manager in a breast cancer research and advocacy organization is multifaceted. It involves managing both in-person and virtual volunteers, being sensitive to the personal connections many volunteers have to breast cancer, and fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all.

Key Position Objectives:
Plan, execute and evaluate volunteer engagement strategies and plans, with a focus on ways to improve awareness of BCC’s mission while engaging target audiences and increasing donations. As a strategic link and representative of the organization's voice, act passionately to advocate for BCC and engage the community at large in the fight for our cause.

Position Requirements and Experience:

These experiences and competencies are identified as the minimums required for success in this position.

Education Requirements:
a) Post secondary educated in relevant fields of study which may include human resources, volunteer management, or equivalent of related experiences is required.
b) VMPA certification is an asset.
c) Studied the principals of diversity, equity and inclusion is considered an asset.
d) Trained in the practical and advanced use of applicable software or related technological tools for fundraising and volunteer management is considered an asset.

Experience Requirements:
a) Three (3)+ years proven experience managing diverse groups of volunteers across a variety of initiatives.
b) Formal experience working for a charity or nonprofit considered an asset.
c) Proven expertise in strategic planning, non-profit administration, and financial management.
d) Success in managing, motivating and mentoring volunteers with the ability to bring out the best in teams and individuals, with a track record of identifying, cultivating and stewarding volunteers.
e) Formal experience with recruiting and supporting senior-level volunteers.
f) Knowledge of and able to select the best concept, methodology and tools for volunteer assignments.
g) Talented public speaker, comfortable presenting live to large audiences of in-person or virtual attendees.
h) Advanced project management skills, including planning and critical evaluation of an initiative, and designing metrics to monitor performance against goal expectations all within a culture with tight deadlines.
i) Excellent organizational and time management skills, strong attention to detail and the ability to use own initiative while being able to effectively manage a number of tasks and projects simultaneously.
j) Strong IT skills including Google Suite, volunteer management software, social media applications, and mail management applications and other CMS tools.
k) Above average communication skills and emotional intelligence.
l) Understanding of, and aptitude to learn about breast cancer and BCC’s research.

Working Conditions:
a) Ability to succeed in a virtual work environment (fully remote since 2015), a T2200 is provided.
b) Travel is required; a valid driver’s licence and clean drivers abstract with insurance are required.
c) Varying work hours is required; The nature of the work is such that some evening and weekend work is required.
d) Works well both independently and cooperatively in a team, while maintaining the flexibility to adapt to the changing circumstances and priorities of a dynamic and growing organization.

Critical Business and Key Performance Indicators:

Volunteer Hub Membership (40-50%): Oversee and coordinate national volunteer programs through strong networking, relationship building and engaging motivational and presentation skills in support of BCC fundraising and awareness goals and objectives.
a) Establish and maintain strong relationships with Breast Cancer Canada’s Volunteer Hubs and their members across the country.
b) Work closely with Hub leaders to grow Hub membership and activities.
c) Support national fundraising, research, and engagement activities through active collaboration with other departments to identify volunteer needs and opportunities.
d) Develop, implement, and maintain short and long-term strategic plans for in-person and virtual volunteer recruitment and retention.
e) Identify opportunities to expand community-based engagement for BCC volunteers.
f) Evaluate and report on volunteer program effectiveness and program resources.

Volunteer Event Scheduling and Assignment (30-40%): Lead volunteer recruiting, training and supervisory responsibilities while creating a positive and fulfilling experience which ensures program effectiveness and engagement for volunteer and BCC goals.
a) Create and manage volunteer schedules and assignments, leveraging technology and interpersonal skills for optimal outcomes.
b) Ensure appropriate allocation and use of volunteer resources, assigned materials and communication strategies.
c) Coordinate volunteer activity for BCC’s signature events, including the annual Mother’s Day Walk-a-thon.
d) Carefully ensure all events are executed on time and within budget.
e) Attend, actively and positively participate in volunteer events to act as point of contact and trouble shoot issues which may arise.

Volunteer Recognition and Development (10-20%): Sensitively identify and connect with volunteer motivations and connections to breast cancer while fostering a supportive and inclusive experience; and giving thanks and recognition to volunteer contributions.
a) Provide training and orientation for new volunteers through knowledge translation and mobilization.
b) Organize thoughtful and appropriate recognition and appreciation events for volunteers, ensuring good communication and promotion of all activities.
c) Ensure compliance to volunteer policies and regulations, and if required, coach and provide course correction.

Special Projects (0-5%):
a) Other duties as may be required from time-to-time, including educational trips as necessary.
b) Supervise and lead special projects, as needed.

Salary: $70,000 to $80,000
