Vancouver, Canada Go REcruitment Full time

Semios is a market leader in leveraging the internet-of-things (IoT) and big data to improve the sustainability and profitability of specialty crops. With 500 million data points being reported by our sensors every day, we leverage our big data analytics, such as in-depth pest and disease modeling, to empower tree fruit and tree nut growers with decision-making tools to minimize resources and risks.

Our innovative work has received several industry awards:

  1. Google Accelerator (2020) - Selected as 1 of 9 companies for the inaugural Google for Startups Accelerator Canada cohort, who are all using technology to solve complex challenges.

Who you are:
Motivated by meaningful work, you are looking for more than just a job; you want to work for a dynamic, growing company that finds solutions to real-life problems, such as helping the world reduce the use of pesticides and helping nature feed a growing population. Your ideal work environment includes a collaborative team spirit with the opportunity to learn and grow as you take the initiative to try new things.

You are a curious and detail-oriented person who likes to investigate grant opportunities. You enjoy the challenge of uncovering information that is not always readily available and connecting the dots between our work and what is happening in the industry. You enjoy coordinating with others to deliver applications and reports on time. You are skilled at conveying technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences and have the ability to put both a business and technical lens on issues.

What you will do:

  1. Research Canadian, US, and Europe government funding programs available for for-profit organizations and application information to assess company alignment with specific funding opportunities.
  2. Liaise with external funding organizations to identify opportunities for funding for-profit projects and confirm financial and reporting requirements.
  3. Analyze and interpret the grant/fund requirements, owning the development of a clear and focused strategy, business case, and clarifying issues, as needed.
  4. Drive the internal teams' development and completion of grant applications ensuring the process is followed and timelines are defined and communicated.
  5. Write strategic, concise, accurate content and edit/update existing content for the grant/fund responses, as applicable to the submission.
  6. Own the proposal production process, including gaining internal approvals, finalizing deliverables, quality control, coordination of delivery and aligning all efforts with internal and external professionals to ensure on-time, compliant and winning submissions.
  7. Once the grant is secured, continue to drive the relationship with the funding organization.
  8. Ownership of all grant reporting during the project, including market, technical, and detailed financial reports.
Requirements

We want you to succeed, so you will need:

  1. Degree in Business, Agriculture or another relevant discipline
  2. Minimum 3 years of experience in researching grant opportunities, developing proposals and writing successful grant applications
  3. Understanding of accounting and finance practices; ability to interpret an income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statement
  4. Experience in writing business cases
  5. Strong decision-making skills, ability to work with limited information
  6. Excellent business writing and presentation skills
  7. Ability to work under pressure and tight timelines
  8. Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
  9. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive payroll and financial information
  10. Significant initiative and independence in carrying out project work

Nice to have:

  1. Experience within agriculture industry

Why this is the opportunity for you:

  1. Sleep better knowing you're making the world a better place through more sustainable food production
  2. Work with a team that values fun, laughter, and each other
  3. Have a lasting impact as you help to build a company
  4. Learn a lot along the way
