The clinical physician is a member of the Clinical Services Team and works closely with team members and host and partner organizations to ensure the provision of the highest quality of health care services to clients/patients.

  1. Medical degree and residency from a recognized university.
  2. License to practice from the Ontario College of Physicians and Surgeons.
  3. Five to ten years experience in a community-based primary care setting.
  4. Expertise in providing health care to an inner city population.
  5. At least 2 years’ experience working with homeless individuals.
  6. Commitment to the education of future health professionals.
  7. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English (oral communication skills in French are considered an asset).
  8. Commitment to and knowledge of community-based health care.

ACCOUNTABILITY:

The Clinical physician is directly accountable to the Medical Director on matters related to Ottawa Inner City Health, Inc and through him/her/them to the Chief Executive Officer. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining the licensing and regulatory requirements of the College of Physician and Surgeons of Ontario as the professional governing body.

  1. The clinical physician works closely with team members and host and partner organizations to ensure the provision of the highest quality of health care services to clients. li>
  2. Ensures the design of clinical protocols, which are effective and appropriate to the inter-organizational nature of this project.
  3. Contributes to the design of training and orientation modules; acts as a resource within training sessions as appropriate.
  4. Provides client-centred primary care to clients delivered in a respectful, appropriate manner and which accords with the needs and wishes of the clients and within the principles adopted by the Ottawa Inner City Health.
  5. Performs clinical duties by seeing, examining, assessing clients for routine health and illness care, prescribing treatment and appropriate care.
  6. Provides services on an outreach, on-site, walk-in, appointment or on-call basis as determined by client needs and scheduled programs and services of Ottawa Inner City Health and makes home visits as necessary.
  7. Acts in an ethical and professional manner in accordance with the guidelines of the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, the Canadian Medical Association, the Canadian College of Family Practice and the policies and standards (written and unwritten) of Ottawa Inner City Health.
  8. Provides clinical advice and support to the nurses, nurse practitioners and other practitioners as required to ensure the best possible quality of care to clients.
  9. Works in partnership with other members of the Clinical Services Team to share responsibility for planning, provision and coordination of client care.
  10. Ensures appropriate, comprehensive treatment is delivered by maintaining complete and accurate medical records.
