**About ONHC**
The Ottawa Newcomer Health Centre (ONHC) is a proud program of the Somerset West Community Health Centre that provides healthcare, offers timely, coordinated and culturally appropriate health and social services to newcomers. Our approach to care is through a health equity lens with a focus on addressing the social determinants of health to improve the lives and wellbeing of our clients.
**Position Description**
Ottawa Newcomer Health Centre has been providing care in the community since 2010. Our mandate is to offer comprehensive, innovative regional programs that address people’s overall well-being. The provision of care has expanded and ONHC has been selected by Ontario Health as one of only four organizations across the province to initiate the establishment of **a **_Specialized Clinical Transition Team for Refugees with Complex Needs_**. The core objective of this initiative is to enhance health outcomes by implementing culturally responsive, patient-centered interventions right within the heart of refugee communities. The aim is to ensure improved access to a range of healthcare services, focusing on key areas to improve access to healthcare services, including primary care, mental health and trauma counselling, pediatric care, immunization and infectious disease care, and women’s health care. A culturally responsive approach will be utilized including access to interpretation services, and system navigation support.
As part of this specialized team, the physician will have the opportunity to work within an interprofessional team of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, psychotherapists, community health workers, interpreters, and health promotion staff. The specialized team will medically stabilize clients and facilitate transfer of the client to the community and act as a clinical resource to primary care providers & organizations following transition.
This opportunity provides **_NO OVERHEAD COST_** to the physician and includes administrative staff support and access to electronic documentation through TELUS PS Suites. SWCHC offers the pension plan by HOOPP.
We are looking for someone who has experience in and knowledge of immigrant and refugee health including a sound knowledge and understanding of the issues facing immigrants and refugees and the unique dynamics that exist within their various cultures.
**Requirements**:
- Family Physician licensed in good standing with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario and certified by the College of Family Physicians of Canada
- Experience in primary care, including community health, hospital and/or family practice.
- Experience/interest in working with a diverse interprofessional care.
- Knowledge and understanding of the Community Health Centre model of health and well-being.
- Demonstrated understanding of the impact of the social determinants of health on people’s health and well-being
- Experience in managing mental health and trauma.
- Commitment to the principles of health equity and inclusion.
- Interest and desire to work with multicultural groups and newcomers (immigrants, refugees, and uninsured) with diverse health care experiences and needs.
- Ability to provide service in French, Arabic and/or other languages an asset.
- Ability to work flexible schedule (evening/weekend) if required (once per week)
