To investigate fire events to determine origin, cause, and responsibility in accordance with assignments from clients or assigned legal counsel.Accepts assignments from customers for investigation of losses or claims and pursues investigation in accordance with the specific needs of the assignment.Determines the origin and cause of the loss/claim under investigation and identifies any potential third-party responsibility for subrogation potential.Serves as a liaison between the insurance industry and law enforcement/fire service personnel.Investigates losses/claims with illegal, fraudulent or subrogation aspects in accordance with assignment from client or assigned attorney representing insurer.Develops necessary knowledge and expertise required to conduct thorough inspection of available public records including land deeds, mortgages, liens, suits, judgments, marriage and divorce records, etc.Maintains up-to-date information in regard to existing laws pertaining to rights of privacy and availability of public records to assure that all investigations are conducted in a completely legal and ethical manner.Follows industry acceptable methodology for performance of services.Develops and maintains positive relationships with clients, colleagues, subcontractors and prospects.Accepts assignments from clients for investigation of claims and pursues investigation in accordance with the specific needs of the assignment.Provides technical advice to clients on issues regarding insurance claims, legal actions, electrical design and risk assessment.Conducts investigations of failures, malfunction, defects, or damages involving electrical equipment to determine the origin and cause of failure.Performs laboratory examination and testing of electrical equipment to determine cause of failure.Applies knowledge of commercial, industrial, and residential building electrical systems.Develops recommendations for repair and/or remediation of electrical systems.Conducts inspections to determine the quality of electrical system design, installation, function, and maintenance procedures.Produces detailed engineering reports regarding failure analysis and opinions on cause of failures, recommendations for repair and recommissioning of equipment.Reviews legal documents, contracts, regulations, codes, and standards to identify facts and key issues relevant to a given incident investigation.Serves as an expert witness in court, depositions, mediations, or other litigation support activities.Collaborates with EFI Global international team of forensic experts to leverage knowledge and experience.Develops and maintains positive relationships with clients, colleagues, contractors, and other stakeholders.Uses communications and social skills to develop professional relationships with clients and industry groups. Attends marketing and sales activities, and social events with clients.Complies with Company’s Safety Programs/Standards.Complies with all Human Resources Policies, Programs, and Initiatives.Continuous learning to maintain expert level knowledge in your technical discipline and understanding of new science, industry trends and emerging issues.Prepares and delivers technical presentations and publishes technical articles.
Education & Licensing:Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university and registered as a Professional Engineer (OIQ) within the province of Quebec. Minimum certification requirement for consideration, Certified Fire & Explosion Investigator (CFEI). IAAI Certified Fire Investigator (IAAI-CFI) certification is preferred. li>Minimum fifteen (15) years of engineering experience or equivalent combination of fire investigation experience and education.
